Bank have given my new address to ex partner

I'm thinking about this just now - but have they actually technically given your ex your new address? reason I ask is that all of his mail now comes to you at your address - not to him at his address - technically, he doesn't actually have your new address.
The problem will come when he goes in to ask where his statements are I would assume.
I hope I'm not being daft here.
As for how and why it happened, human error - it's a common thing (having previously worked with the bank), but it can be rectified without the other party knowing the new address, because no correspondence presumably has reached them with the new address on it?
ok - having logged into my online banking, I have managed to find where the address part is - however, it is not something I check on a regular basis. Is it possible he won't have looked?0 -
Hi
Thanks for the replied. Yes he sent me an email two days ago saying 'I take it ******* is your new address then?' so he definitely knows it0 -
If it was a joint account, you didn't close the account and you've both signed up to online banking, the bank is hardly to blame for the fact that your ex has access to your new address. You should have notified the bank that you were no longer living together and closed the joint account. Banks don't have crystal balls. If you don't tell them that your relationship has ended and that you've gone your separate ways, it's hardly their fault. And at least your ex let you know that your new address was known to him so you can hardly blame him to acting dishonourably either.0

ah, I see.
As mentioned above though, unless you have been financially disadvantaged by this mistake, they are unlikely to be offering anything much by way of compensation.
You will get an apology, they should correct the account to show his correct address and remove yours from his accounts.
Other than that, get the account closed or your name remove ASAP.0 -

I ticked the latter and wrote details of MY three accounts in the area provided, so it was very clear my joint account with my ex partner was not to be moved.
Thanks very much for all the advice. Since posting I have received a phone call from the hail fax to say they have received my letter and will call me tomorrow with a response, so will let you know what the say
Any response from Halifax yet OP?My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

Not as yet! Still waiting0

I have a joint account with another bank, and me and my husband are very much treated as seperate customers (as we should be), we both had to contact them individually to change our address recently (we were moving to the same house but I'm not allowed to change his details).
I also worked in another bank and there customers were treated individually too.
It's not uncommon for people to split up, so to assume that OP wanted her ex's address changing too is just completely unacceptable. I wonder what would happen if you took them to court to pay for the costs of you moving again as they gave him your details? (I know you don't want to move - just a pondering).
Hope this gets sorted for you.Bump due 22nd September0 -

Stop ignoring the questions. What result do you actually want from this? If you don't even know your unlikely to get it.0 -
I've not ignored any questions - I don't know what outcome I wanted or expected! Geez
Halifax called today apologising profusely, said it is certainly a system glitch that they were already aware of (!!) and are working on and put £100 in my account this afternoon as a goodwill gesture.0 -
thank you for letting us know it's been sorted out0
