im asking my brother in law to go on my policy to bring costs down a bit... i told him he doesnt need to drive it etc.
he said he can't because all of his no claims are going on another car.... that doesnt make sense right? what's that got to do with my car?
thanks

Please can you explain a bit more - are you keeping the policy in your name and adding your BIL as a named driver (or vice versa which is a no-no).
As far as I know you can be a named driver on more than one policy, I am. Have my own policy but am also a named driver on other halfs car and daughters car.
The vast majority of policies mean you don't acrue no claims bonus as a named driver so not sure what your BIL means?0 -

Basically I am going to be the main driver and I want to put him on as a named driver.
I don't think he understands insurance too well, he wants to insure another car for him (using all of his built up no claims) so he thinks I cant put him as a named driver??0 -
I wouldnt be too sure that it would bring the price down, Im with the Coop and they were another £11 to add a named driver, so check first.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

he doesn't even have to know he's going on as a named driver and it definitely doesn't ask if the named driver has any NCD as far as i remember.
It just means he's able to drive your car, so stick him on and get your £700 discount0 -
Its fine he won't need his NCB entitlement to be a named driver, as long as he is a named driver and not the main driver. I add a member of the family onto mine every year even at 27 it brings my insurance down. If you use something like moneysupermarket/compare the market and play around, adding different people can yield different results believe it or not. Last year adding my mother on to the policy brought it down by over £200 this year it only brought it down £10, yet I add my other half on a provisional license and it brought it down by over £100. Nothing has changed from last years quote to this years quote. I will either add my mother, step dad or partner which ever reduces it the most.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

Without telling him? Is that really a good idea? Lol0

I would tell him so he knows but tell him it has no effect on his insurance what so ever, atleast if he is ever stuck for a car he is insured to drive yours.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
Being a named driver has no effect on your own insurance.0

What about when the brother in law insures his own car, and gets to the part where they directly ask him if has access to, or is insured to drive another car?
In my experience, different answers to this question do directly affect the quote. In addition, the insurers normally ask that you answer all questions factually, what if the BIL says he has no access to any other vehicle, could that invalidate his policy?0
