If you have a look here:
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/HomeAndCommunity/Privaterenting/Tenancies/DG_189101
you will see two seemingly contradictory statements:
the tenant has the freedom to live in the property undisturbed
the landlord has the right to access the property by giving 24 hours notice
Very interesting
Anyway, back to the OP's question which has been answered admirably by many and is really not relevant to this little discussion as the LA/LL haven't given any notice!0 -
Gosh thanks everyone for your input
i spoke to, and then put in writing to the LA that as per the terms of our lease we would not agree to any further viewings unless we were given at least 24 hours notice in writing (this is what is says in our agreement)
he is such a weasel, was completely unapologetic and tried to blame a mix up over mobile numbers, which is simply not true
anyway, hopefully he has now got tehmessage and will be writing to arrange any further viewings
we've only got another 2 weeks then we can wash our hands of the whole thing0 -
He might have got the message but could ignore it anyway. Many do and just keep their fingers crossed that you don't find out that they've been in your home while you're out.
To be absolutely certain just change the barrel of the lock. For a Yale-type a new barrel will cost you about a fiver at B&Q and take around five minutes to change. Change it back again to the old one on the day you hand the property over.0
