i am FURUIOUS. we gave notice on our rented house a week or so ago. The letting agent phoned one morning wanting to do viewings that afternoon, we said that was fine and hared around making the place neat and tidy.
we have just realised that for a second time since then the letting agent has been in and done a viewing without giving us any prior warning at all.
we are both at work today, yesterday we had a second birthday party with 20 small children and the house is far from how i would want it to look when people are being shown around. and what's more we have a very timid dog, who if we had known that the LA was doing a viewing we would have made sure was not there at the time
what can we do? i've had a bit of a go at the letting agent, but they are so flakey they just doen't seem to care.
can we refuse further viewings? it's a bit tit for tatt and i don't want to disadvantage our Landlord who has been very good about fixing things and so on
i'm just so cross:(

Tell them to do one until you are ready for them to view, they should not be coming in without you knowing.0

Change the barrel of the lock and change it back when you move out. You are entitled to "quiet enjoyment" of your home and have the right to decline entry to anyone you like. You could consider refusing all viewings until you have vacated. I'd be minded to put that in writing to the agents given their past conduct AND I'd send a copy to the landlord as well.0

does anyone know if we are within our rights to refuse any further viewings?0

afaik you can refuse yup. put a bit of tape or something over the door when you all leave and when you get back you can double check that nobody has been in0

Thanks all
i've banged out a ranting email to the letting agent, but shall have a cup of tea and a few deep breaths before sending it
i thought it was buying a house that was meant to be stressful, not leaving the rented one0 -
Either change lock or get a shed alarm and put it in the hallway.
Cheeky so and sos.0 -
I had a similar problem a couple of years ago with a letting agent! I came home one day to find a random man standing in my bedroom and it was about a week after being burgled! I would be complaining like hell if I were in your position! It's really not on!0

Bloody hell, if that had happened to me he would've been picking his teeth up with broken fingers and the LA would be wondering WTH happened! They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -
