Any advice would be great0

I too have received an overpayment bill of £2000 plus.
This is for the period ending April 2008.
How can they go that far back?
Why have they only sent me this now?
Any help would be appreciated.0 -
Mine is for 07 and 08 u would think they only have a set amount of time for them to recover ir0

How much they after from you where they think people gonna get the money I thought it was set up to help people not get them in debt0

Call them up and ask about it perhaps?
To be honest I doubt it will be written off, if you were aware you shouldn;t have been having the payments they should have been set aside to pay back when required. The only thing you can do is call them and ask to set up a repayment plan.Credit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011

According to MSE website "If the tax office is at fault, and you've correctly notified it in time of any changes, you won't have to repay."???0 -
As far as I know OP if you can PROVE you informed them and show it is them that is acting in error then you should not have to pay this money back, however doing this will be very difficult did you send them notice of changes in writing? Did you get a proof of postage? Did you keep a copy? Was you phoning them every couple of week nagging them because they had not made the relevant changes? Did you keep a call log?
To be honest without all of this you are going to struggle, 8k is a LOT of money to be overpaid this may not be as simple as "oh OK we overpaid you so now pay it back", you could find this whole problem a bigger problem than you are anticipating, you need to be speaking to them regularly and get this mess sorted out as quickly as possible. People have been prosecuted for much less so keep this in mind.
Also OP if you KNEW you were being overpaid and you KNEW TC had made a mistake why did you not bank the money? You must have realised that one day they would ask for it back?
As said 8k is an awful lot of money to be overpaid................................

It depends, I have seen stories on here where tax credits have admitted the fault but the amount still has to be repaid and being honest I agree, why should someone have £8000 of tax credits they weren't entitled to when they were fully aware of that when the country is in the state it is?
You would have to speak to the tax credit office and find out exactly where you stand, my dispute reply came in about 4-6weeks after being sent in. Once you have their decision you can appeal it, maybe check out CAB and see what they say.Credit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011
