Just to stick my oar in! I do a monthly lunchclub for old folks and my roasties are ledgendry, and I swear by Maris Piper!! Just thought I'd throw that into the mix!! But whatever tatties you use, it must be hot tatties into hot fat!

I think Red Roosters are the best by far -Best chippers, mashers and roasters, the only problem is finding them.
I can second this, I always usedmaris Pipers until I had these Irish potatoes, now growing by farmers in this country.
Morrisons, Sainsburys and Somerfield sell them, the best mash you will have and the roasts are devine!!!

OK, I'll look out for these! Always willing to learn!

  • One vote here for Desiree - I bought them originally because Delia recommended them and they always make great fluffy roast spuds.
The trick is to par boil them for about 10 minutes first and then let them cool as much as you can before adding them to your hot oiled roasting tin. Also make sure they fit your roasting tin in one layer as too many spuds means they can't cook as well.
  • I always score my potatoes with a fork, after par-boiling so that they are really crispy. :)

They're more expensive than Maris Pipers, but Arran Victory make fabulous roast potatoes ( I got a bag reduced from Waitrose, and they were so good that I think I'll pay full price for a treat just for Christmas).

They were the variety that Heston B thought made the best chips.

Roosters get my vote. They make the best mash as well. I get them from Morrisons, although I do beleive you can buy them online direct ( at a price ) from Albert Bartlett

Maris Pipers are definitely best in my book but if I can't get them I like Roosters and King Edwards in that order.
