I can't recall which slobrity chef programme I was watching recently which recommended Maris Piper as THE potato for your Christmas roast. Can anyone else back this up from experience?

King Edwards are best, followed by Maris Pipers.TL0

My DH always uses Red Desiree, and makes the best roasties that I've ever had.

I think Red Roosters are the best by far -Best chippers, mashers and roasters, the only problem is finding them. The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0

Yes, either Maris Piper or King Edward. You need a floury potato for roast - infact I only ever use MP or KE for mash, baked and roast. Waxy potato for just plain boiled, unmashed tatters.0

Desire without a doubt. Most people overlook opportunity as it comes dressed in overalls, and looks like hard work.0

Roosters are available in most Somerfields stores, I have only used bessies until now so will be experimenting. I think it depends on the indvidual.

Liz why don't you pop into a local greengrocer and see if they have a choice of the varieties mentioned and ask their opinion? You could even do a taste test if they sell the potatoes loose.0 -
