How long does it take a paypal payment to "arrive" with the seller

Options
I'm currently in the process of buying an item I won on Saturday. I immediately paid by paypal, and asked the seller to send on Tuesday or later as then I'd be able to be in from work to collect it.

Among a whole stream of poor actions by the seller, they claimed that they only sent me the item on Friday because it took that long for the paypal funds to reach their account.

How can that be? Newbies have a 21 day hold on funds, but that does not usually mean that they hold off on sending the goods. And if there is a shorter time for funds to clear into a paypal account for someone with over 30 feedback, does it really explain payment on Saturday, dispatch booked on Thursday, and sent on Friday?

It can't be. Paypal is instant, unless it involves an echeque. You would still be waiting if that was the case.

Maybe they're the sort of silly seller, who only sends once the payment has been transferred into their bank account?

They are certainly the sort of seller that tells me that they will be sending next day delivery on Wednesday, then on Thursday sends a tracking number with the word "TNT" that won't work on the TNT website, then on Saturday, after I waited home on Thursday and Friday, tells me that they only sent on Friday and by interparcel.com.

Personally I'm dissatisfied, and want to check out a few of his/her claims.

Surely this is what feedback is for? Just leave appropriate feedback for the service you have received.

What do you mean by check out a few of their claims?
As Olias says you have the FB & star systems to leave appropriate feedback once you have the item.

I personally believed that their claim about the funds being the reason for not sending on Friday was BS. However, I wanted to confirm this. Ebay has all sorts of weird rules and procedures, which seem to change frequently.

Also, I asked them to hold off sending until Tuesday, for my convenience, and accepted the date of Wednesday dispatch. At the time, I told them that of course I'd still give them 5* for dispatch time if they did this. Of course, sending on Friday without telling me wasn't part of this agreement.

I've just heard that the package has arrived, and luckily my partner was at home to receive it, because I had to be at work. Given this, I think a neutral is appropriate, with a description of what happened. I've never given anything other than positive feedback, and am hesitant to do so.

Did the seller tell you it would be / was dispatched wed or did you just assume this because you asked for it to be dispatched after Tuesday?

Sounds like a poor excuse. Paypal is instant, although it can take up to 3 further working days for that money to be transferred into the sellers bank. Maybe a big thing for the seller, but relevant as far as the transaction goes. If they are not trade then I would not be too hard on the seller as often it is frustrating to see the money sitting in the paypal account knowing that it will take three days to get the hold of it.

If the item was dispatched over the sellers advertised time of dispatch, mark Him/her done on that item or the feedback star rating only.

Any seller who equates 'receipt of money' with seeing that money in their bank account is heading for disaster.

I wonder if the payment was an echeque?
