Wedding dress doesn't fit - 2 months to go

Personally, if budget allows I would buy the dress in the size 12, but I am a natural born worrier and don't think I would be able to relax at all until I knew I had a dress that definately fitted.
Well done for losing what you have so far and keep going and then if you do fit in the dress you bought, bonus.
I think the dress looks stunning by the way, it really suits you."More people would learn from their mistakes if they weren't so busy denying them." - Harold J. Smith:cool:0 -
Ok. Is the modesty panel the fabric under the lacing?
you should be able to get any seamstress to make a new panel to go under. No need to let the dress out or anything complicated. You can either match the fabric or go contrasting. You won't really notice it under the lacing. Are you having a veil? They could possible remove the existing panel and unpick it to add a couple of inches (depends on finish) or maybe edge it with something.
It looks good from the front- seems to fit on the bust etc. The dress itself doesn't look too small.June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving

It just sits a bit funny at the min because the hip part needs to go down but I need to lose an extra inch to name it sit right. The modesty panel is the fabric under the lace up but it's quite a way from fitting sound definitely need a new one ( it looks easy to do though). Just not sure whether to take the risk eek0

From what I see your main concern is about the way it lies on the hips rather than the back. Is that right? I am sure a competent seamstress can widen it at the hips a bit if needed. Has the dress been adjusted already, if not then I would think there is a bit of give in the seams.
You know yourself best... but can you really lose the weight? I know I can't (if I could would have done it 10 years ago!) so it's good to have some contingencies just in case. Also, how much weight is there to lose on your hips? You look quite slim, so their can't be too much to go! And you do want it to look beautifully fitted, and not squeezed into.0 -
Yes the hips area is definitely my main concern! There is weight to lose there as I tried on a pair of my old jeans yesterday and these were far to small around the hips when 1.5ish years ago they fitted perfectly. (I was 10st 6 then and I'm currently 12st).
I've joined slimming world with my sis yesterday and have planned to go swimming/gym at least 4 times a week.
My sister emailed a few seamstresses yesterday (I live in Basingstoke, Hants if anyone has any suggestions). She got a couple of replies back this morning saying it could be let out at the seams. I don't think it has had any alterations - but as it was listed as the wrong size on ebay I cant be 100% sure that this point is true either. My sister is calling the semstress this morning to see if we can perhaps take the dress to her to be looked at.0 -
That sounds like a good compromise. Even if you lose the weight, having it slightly loosened will make it sit beautifully and not look just that little bit tight. And it will hopefully reduce the stress for you!
Good luck. I have bought my dress a size up (I'm not optimistic about these things!) and have since lost one size, so I may have a different problem in 3 months. Only slight problem is that I seem to be losing too much weight in my b00bs, but such is life!0 -

I completely agree! I went with my sister recently to get her wedding dress fitted (two weddings in one year- mental!) and the dressmaker was lovely and told us that if there were any last minute dressmaking emergencies to give her a call and that just the previous week she had a bride who became visably pregnant before the wedding and simply had the dress altered to get it to fit so lots of things are possible!
Clever underwear, eating heathily and doing a little exercise should help and a good dressmaker could do the rest hopefully. I think the main thing is definitely not to panic (easier said than done, I know!).
Hope it all goes well xx0 -
don't forget if you are looking for an alternative dress look in the range up to two sizes larger than you are now.
my seamstresses advice when i went looking for dresses is remember that they can be taken down 2 sizes quite easily (and are designed to do this) but not up a size.
the reason for this is that most brides lose weight in the run up to the big day and the designers know this so they recommend the stress free way is buy your current size and if you lose 1-2 stone take the dress in.0 -
Thanks everyone!
I feel a little bit better now! I have an appointment for the seamstress to look at the dress a week Monday.
Does anyone know what hoop would go?0 -
Kaysmith - I am in west berkshire and I used a seamstress in Theale (near Junction 12 of M4). She was fab and may be able to help. She does the alterations for a second hand and sample dress shop (Berkshire Brides) so is well used to making dresses fit. She should be able to tell you waht is possible and what isnt. PM me if you want her details.
I think you would need either a 2 or 3 layer A line petticoat (jupon 168 and 165 or equivalent). I have an unused 168 for sale on preloved at the moment if you are interested.0
