I have been about 1.5 - 2 stone lighter than i am now about 2 years ago so i think my frame would support it.

    Which VLCD did you do?

I did lighter life but if you want a cheaper one Exante is good too.

You could easily drop a dress size or more in 9 weeks on Slimming World. As long as you stick to it, you could lose 2lbs a week no problem. Some weeks, possibly more, i did.

I wouldn't recommend VLCD's 9 weeks before a wedding, you'll have enough to worry about ! Plus LighterLife is ridiculously expensive, you could buy another wedding dress with what it will cost you (about £500) My friend did LighterLife and was really quite ill for the first 3 weeks.

Buy this months SW magazine and follow the weekly planner in there, you'll soon see how easy it is. You won't have to join a club if you don't want to. Good luck !

    Hiya,

I am in / was in a similar position - only I intentionally bought a dress too small to force me into losing weight.

I too have a modesty panel, and up until 3 weeks ago the modesty panel wasn't sitting right.

My dress is quite fitted on the hips, and I needed to lose more weight from my hips for the material to slide down a bit further in order for the modesty panel to sit in the correct place.

About 8 weeks ago I had a major wobble and didn't think I would be able to do it.

But 3 weeks ago, the dress slid down on the hips like it was meant to, and it could be done up all the way to the top. There is currently about 0.5" of fless showing at the side of the modest panel, but I still have 6 weeks til the wedding and I am still continuing to lose weight.

I aren't doing any silly methods. I am eating healthily, trying to increase water, fruit n veg & exercise, and trying to decrease portion size, alcohol, bread, chocolate, cakes etc. I haven't banned anything, as it would only make me crave it more.

I've lost almost 2stone since I started the diet in January, which works out on average of about 1.2lbs per week. So in theory, if you did the same you could lose approx 12lbs which would probably make all the difference.

About 8 weeks ago I was in the same boat as you tho - in a panic and thinking it was too close, and what if I couldn't do it, and it wouldn't fit. But now I am confident, as even if i got married tomorrow it wouldn't look silly - i would just prefer it if i could lose a few extra pounds.

Good luck with it all :D

I have looked at some pics of the dress on google and I think a seamstress would be able to let it out at the back, I can see what you say about it being fitted lower than the panel goes but there is a lot of ruching lower down which could conceal some more alteration. If you want to tell us what area you're in we could help finding some? Or just go through yellow pages, and troop round with the dress, show it to the seamstresses and ask what they can do. Also ask if you can see photos of similar alterations they have done, before and after, so you can feel more confident.

HTH and try not to get too stressed!

good luck hope you get it sorted. I would try the underwear and find a good streamtress along with excercise and sensible dieting.

not sure if this is the right one as it says its not last years but the previous season. It says its a 14/16 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Maggie-Sottero-AmbrosiaWedding-Dress-Ivory-SZ14-NEW-/270760277774?pt=UK_Wedding_Clothing&hash=item3f0a91f70e
  • have you had it done up properly yet?

i only ask as when i tried mine on about 2 months ago there was a gap where my modesty panel poppers wouldnt do up, ive probably lost a few pounds but not as much as i could have done (lazy mare i am)
but i said to my CBM that i wanted her to do the dress up so i could see what the worst case scenario was, i was gutted when she said there was still an inch or two but then as she slowly got the lace up back done up properly not only did the poppers do up but i had some spare, then half an hour later she could do the dress up even tighter and there was more room than either of us had previously thought

    Hi,

I would agree with the previous post. When I tried Maggie dresses on the sales assistant told me that you should be able to tighten it twice before getting married , She advised leaving it for 1/2 an hour in between each tightening. The bones in the dress give when they get warm. On my wedding day I couldn't believe how tight my OH got my dress !

On the dieting issue, I too couldn't do my Maggie dress up properly when I bought it. I did the Ducan Diet and lost enough weight quickly to feel fantastic in my Dress. I posted on here about the nightmare.

I found the Ducan Diet easy and I didn't need to spend money on books etc. Basically you eat Pure Protein and low fat Dairy, I found it easier than meal replacement as you can still eat (and I did drink, but you have to be careful) There is loads of info around on it.

    Good Luck
