Feel like my insurance company have ripped me off!!

Basically,2 weeks ago a car pulled out on me and wrote my car off,the guy has admitted he was at fault.
I was gutted about my car,i had only had it four weeks and had spent months trying to find one in my price bracket ect,but thought well a least ill get paid out and be able to get a new one.
Anyway to replace my car will cost on average £2300-£2500 and thats what i expected to get.My first offer was £1600 and after 2 days of argueing i got offered £2000.
I did look into buying the car back myself and repairing it,but they wanted £680 for it,so that is no longer an option.
Anyway decided im just going to have to take the £2000 and find another car.And then i was told they will also be taking off me my years insurance premium??? I had only renewed the end of april,so that will be appox £500 and if i buy another car next week i would have to start a whole new policy even if i stayed with sainsburys, and this is a loss that i cant claim back on the person who hit me insurance,i have legal cover but they tell me i cant use that to claim my loses!! So unfair,i did nothing wrong that day,and yet so far im probs £800 -£1000 at lose!! Does anyone have any suggestions?? i feel whatever why i turn they seem to have you!!

how come you can't buy the car back and have it repaired? if they want £680 and £500 insurance then you've got £820 to spend on repairs and i'm guessing it'll still be insured.

The insurance industry is a rip off in every way.....and don't forget when you take out new insurance it will GO UP because you were involved in a prang. Even though it wasnt your fault.
Add another £100 to the cost of what you paid in April.

Im pretty sure if you bought the car recently the FOS have agreed in favour of the claimant that what you paid for it is a reasonable pay out. Someone can probably confirm

if you are sure there is no argument about liability then you'd probably be better off cancelling your claim with your insurance company and dealing direct with the third party company.

That way your policy will continue as normal, you won't have to pay any excess and you'll probably find them more flexible on write off/salvage values

Are you claiming off your insurance or the other drivers?

^^ top bit of advice, you dont have to involve you insurers with no fault accident only inform them as a matter of course (in you terms and cons) you have been in a accident.

decline the offer of £2000 if you accept the offer the car belongs to them and you have no turning back point to withdraw their support.

    taken from FOS websit:
    9. vehicles recently purchased second-hand

If the policyholder only recently bought his car second-hand, we are likely to assume that the price paid was the market value, unless the insurer can provide sufficient evidence to the contrary.

    hope this helps.

Wait a minute. It is the other guy's insurance who should be paying out, nothing to do with your insurance.

Stop this lunacy at once and get his insurance to cover you and an immediate hire car as a first gesture.

That doesn't make any sense, the policy is for a year, so it should still run, regardless whether you make a claim or not.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

I think what she is meaning there is that if she takes the offer of 2k the car won't be hers anymore so naturally she would want to cancel the insurance on it and try and get a refund on the 10 months left it has to run. But as she is making a claim there will be no refund, they wont give her a penny back. So, if she accepts the 2k the 500 insurance is lost.

It looks like shes claiming on her own insurance which is weird if its the other drivers fault.
