Feel like my insurance company have ripped me off!!

I think what she is meaning there is that if she takes the offer of 2k the car won't be hers anymore so naturally she would want to cancel the insurance on it and try and get a refund on the 10 months left it has to run. But as she is making a claim there will be no refund, they wont give her a penny back. So, if she accepts the 2k the 500 insurance is lost.
But the insurers must give the OP the opportunity to replace the car. We had a car written off last year and my insurers didn't cancel the policy. We bought a replacement and attached it to that policy. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
I 'think' she's just presuming that they're going to cancel the policy. It says they want the premium paying up, so that could be so she doesn't cancel after using their legal aspect of the insurance (just a guess). Pretty sure she'd still have the remaining insurance policy but it's fully paid up, so personally i'd buy the car back (if it wasn't too badly damaged), pay the remainder of the insurance and have almost a grand to play with to have it repaired.
If the insurance will sell it back then it's going to be a cat C or D and probably a couple of hundred to repair with second hand parts.0 -

Oh. Then I have no idea as to why. I assumed the policy would be void as such and a new one would have to be started with the new reg number and car details, if she found a replacement.0 -

You were right, there is a significant minority of Insurers who will cancel the policy after a they write a car off and will deduct any remaining instalments from the total loss settlement.0
