I had asked the Hearing Aid providers to not refund my credit card, in fact they even promised to write me a cheque, but they just refunded my card without my knowledge.
They probably realised they'd have to stomach the 2% (or whatever) fee they paid to process the original transaction. I understand 'undoing' the transaction on the same card eliminates/reduces their fees.
  • To be honest, I was surprised when they offered to refund via cheque and therefore not surprised when it didn't happen! Might approach Barclaycard and enquire re any possible options. Thanks to everyone for their replies!x

You haven't done anything wrong or against the cards T+C's so you should have no problem getting a refund via BACS or cheque from Barclaycard (I've done it in the past). You haven't deliberately put your account in credit like the original poster which is against the rules.

Just give them a call, shouldn't be a problem

Just to add...you may not be covered for fraudulent use of the in-credit balance, meaning you'd have to stand it. £2K would be a heck of a loss for you I'd imagine!

Unless I've missed something, it shouldn't make any difference. The onus of proof remains the same (ie on the CC) that any transaction was made by the cardholder, or there was gross negligence or fraud by him. The exception would be if the fraudulent use was somehow a result/connected with putting the card into credit.

I am in a similar situation (though reached via a different path). I have approx £2k in credit on my Barclaycard (a card I have used for around 10 years). I was investigating buying private hearing aids for myself, and in order to roadtest them had to pay up front, with option to be fully refunded if the aids were not suitable for me (which they turned out not to be). So I had to pay out the £2k initially (and paid off that debit, to ensure i didn't accumulate interest, via remortgaging), then when i returned the aids i was refunded the money to my credit card. I now have all this credit and would love to put it back in my current account where I could move it to my ISA. But no idea how to go about it. Can anyone help? Worst comes to the worst, i still plan to buy private hearing aids in 6-12 months when a newer more suitable model may be out, and so could keep the credit on my Barclaycard till then. Either that or treat myself to a once in a lifetime holiday! :-) Look forward to any suggestions or advice. My first time on the forum :-)

Log in to your barclaycard online there is an option to transfer money to your current account. Sometimes it lets you do it from there.

If not, however, ask them to send you a cheque or BACS it to you. If they refuse to, say you'd like to close the account. They should then "realise" that they can send a cheque out / BACS you the money :o

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure then it would be treated as a normal BT for which a fee will be applied.
