If you are someone who reaches a slump period(like in the afternoon) and reaches for biscuits/crisps/chocolate or whatever your vice is ;) have you considered taking chromium(from health food shops/boots etc) it stabilises your blood sugar and you are less likely to snack.
  • There are number of the supplements available in the market that are really effective for the weight loss. So always use the supplements according to your current status in respect of the age, height and weight.

for natural appetite suppressants try this list that i saw in askmen website. hope it'll help you start your weight loss! :T

    10. One large apple supplies approximately 5 grams of fiber, which fills the stomach up for a longer period of time.
    9. Flaxseeds will provide your body with some slow-digesting fats.
    8. Caffeine when taken in moderate doses as the central nervous system is stimulated, you’ll also tend to experience a decreased appetite.
    7. Water!
    6. Hoodia as you see on other supplements in the market.
    5. Chicken & Vegetable Soup start your meal with hot soup to reduce your appetite.
    4. Wasabi try adding this to your fish or susi (personally doesn't like this )
    3. Oatmeal start your morning with this one to prevent hunger in the later hours of the day.
    2. Salmon reduces your appetite due to the healthy fat it contains since it makes you feel satisfied in hours.
    1. Almonds bite, bite, bite. The hunger-reducing effects of nuts tend to take about half an hour before you feel them, so eat them before you reach the point of being extremely hungry or you’ll be tempted to eat more than just the nuts.

This works. I tried it and lost 40 pounds in half a year.

AVOID ALL sugar. ALL sweet drinks including fruit juice. AVOID sweeteners the make hungry.
DRINK WATER! This is to stop gaining weight and living healthy.

TO LOOSE weight do this. FOR 3 days. AVOID COMPLETELY bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, all sugar and sugar drinks.
INSTEAD ONLY EAT meat, sausages, cheese, milk, vegetables and just few fruit as they have sugar. Dont avoid fat.

You will not starve. But your body will start converting fat into blood sugar. that make you shrink little by little.
One hint. Cottage cheese with linseeds and linseed (flax) kills the hunger for long, gives you much omega3 and was my recipe for loosing one fourth of my weight
  • Healthy Diet through Detox:
I a big fan of detoxing. Over 28 days it really helps you change the way you think about food. You get to eat delicious foods that you might not even have thought of before, and can eat as much as you want. I've tried 2 different ones: Detox for Life (28 days) by Carol Vordeman and Detox Yourself by Jane Shrivner.

CV's one is a bit harsher I think as you cut down on all meats including fish and take all sorts of supplements instead. JS's allows fish and non-dairy cheeses and doesn't involve so many expensive supplements.

    Supplements that have Impressed Me:
To answer the original question I recently tried Hoodia - a friend gave it to me but I didn't remember what it was for. The first day I took it, I wasn't hungry at all, which is not normal for me as I love 3 meals a day. I then looked it up and found out what its supposed to do and was impressed with how efficient it was. I don't need to reduce my appetite though so I stopped taking it!

Another supplement I like and take regularly is Acidophilus. I am gluten intolerant and was recommended it by a nutritionalist who said it might help my digestive system. Its like a powerful version of those probiotic drinks you get in supermarkets. The change in the first month was amazing. I was actually digesting food, and with that I lost a bunch of weight. She recommended the brand Lamberts but its expensive so I now take more generic ones from the health food shop. Not sure they are as good but it was that first kick that I really need.

However... nothing replaces exercise for getting the endorphines going - when you feel that good, you look good and you help tone your body at the same time. Result!
  • I have just started a thread about taking diatom powder as a supplement:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3634997

The reduced hunger levels that people report thanks to taking this supplement are not a case of "reducing a normal healthy appetite to an unnatural unhealthy one." Rather, the appetite that people have BEFORE taking diatom is normally due to ill health caused by internal parasites that most people didn't know they had. Parasites drain away nutrients and steal some of our food intake. Once you start taking diatom and eliminate the parasites, no one is stealing half your food and your appitite goes back to normal as a result! :) For most of your life you've had those parasites inside you and never knew what "normal" hunger levels felt like!

I have been doing lots of research into PMS this week as i know that for the two weeks leading up to my period i am starving and eat way too much. I know it is associated with my hormones. I discovered that in the last half of our cycles we start to lose progesterone and this causes blood sugars to drop - making us hungry.

So the key is to boost our progesterone levels during that two weeks prior to your period. the herb Agnus Castus has been proven to boost progesterone levels and really help with all PMS symptoms including cravings. I have only been taking it for a week, so it is early days but I felt less hungry from the third day and more in control emotionally.

If your cravings are cyclical and seem associated with your period, then this might be worth a shot. Look it up before taking it though to make sure it won't affect you in the wrong way. it can cause your contraceptive to be less effective and should not be taken when pregnant or breastfeeding.
