Have posted the query below on the techie board, but seems no one has answers, so maybe the phone techies may have an answer.

Can someone explain why my Nokia phone has the word (empty) in brackets below the network logo?

Nokia 3330, Sims used, Virgin, Vodafone and Orange.

The phone has numbers stored and accessible as do all the sims, but shortly after turning on the logo appears, then under the logo in brackets appears the word (empty).

The battery can be in any charge situation from nearly flat to fully charged, the word even appears whilst the battery is being charged and nearly full.

This only started about 7-9 months ago, prior to that it never appeared.

TIA.

Is the (enmpty) normally the network name?
    Tried doing a factory reset?
    Altered any backgrounds?

    No to all of those.

Have now done a factory reset and that seems to have cured it, thanks, although I never changed anything as it started doing it, the phone is only a backup/emergency one.

Any ideas what could have caused it or what it meant?

What will I be missing now I have reset the phone?

I can't say for sure - but its probably some network broadcast setting that might have been altered.

What will you be missing from the phone - text messags can get wiped sometimes, contacts - hopefully those are all there. Backup the contacts onto the sim card memory regularly to be safe. Other than that some of the settings might have been reset, ringtone - background. Its a basic phone so no memory card, photos to worry about.

Cheers, wouldn't have thought a network broadcast as it was doing it on 3 separate networks, so probably a phone malfunction, as you say it is a basic phone and I could call and text, just annoys when something appears and you don't know what it means.

No, if you turned on cell broadcasts it would never show one as they aren't transmitted and you wouldn't have selected a topic.

vf are the only one now doing a base cell broadcast, 050 number, shows the area code it thinks you are in.

I can get cell info on ASDA (Vodafone). Have never seen the point of this, as area codes are irrelevant to the mobile network?

Didn't there use to be tariffs that gave free calls if you were calling a landline in the same area code?

long time ago yes. and it caused a few issues, if you were on a boundary to a base station in another code area. ie not yours.

Remembering back to my old 3310, isn't the name under the Network the profile currently being used.

I am sure that was the case with the 3310, if you used "General" then nothing appeared but any other setting showed there, eg. "Silent". Could it be that you accidently seleceted an unnamed profile and that was showing? The factory reset would have put it back onto "General".
