Hide Thread Function?

I'm a new user and I love the board, I've picked up plenty of advice and spent hours scanning through for tips...
I think that one change that may be appreciated amongst regular users, is a 'Hide Thread/Show Hidden Threads' function to temporarily hide and restore/unhide the threads from the main board page (or have a Restore Hidden Threads option in the User CP).
It would save hours of trekking through the boards to look for new tips, as you can hide the threads you have read or threads that are on non-relevant topics.
Would anything like this be possible?

Whilst a hide thread would be useful in certain circumstances, I'm thinking of probably an ignore thread a bit like you can ignore users, it shouldn't be used as you suggest.
You may have read a thread, but someone is always able to post again to that thread. If you hide it you won't see the later posts.
The function is already available to indicate which threads you have read, or been able to read, and not been subsequently posted in - this is when the threads go from highlighted to non-highlighted"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Sounds a bit pointless in my opinion.:cool:0

I do appreciate the comments and in that case, I think the ignore thread function would be more appropriate than to hide them completely.
The trouble I have with the read/unread highlight feature is that new threads that I didn't read yesterday aren't highlighted, despite logging in and not resetting my browser. So even if I subscribe to particular thread, recent posts are still not highlighted on my CP... so I'd rather ignore some threads on boards which don't seem relevant to my needs, as it's hard to distinguish between read and unread.

I honestly think given a bit more time you'll come to figure things out. I found the forum a bit hard to navigate and identify what's new and what's old when I first joined, but it just comes naturally after a while.
Give it some time.:cool:0
