You're not going to get access to private/personal info on her to check, just report her anonymously to the benefit fraud hotline and let them do an investigation.

....after all a bit of auditing / transparency never hurt anyone, particularly a politician* ;)

If the person is a councillor your local council will hold a register of interests. If something is 'bugging' you why don't you just ask the person concerned?

Councillors payments, expenses and interests should all be a matter of public record and shown on the website.

IIRC the payment made to elected councillors (not usually town or parish though) does not count against benefits (definitely not against pensions) as it is to cover attending meetings and phone calls. Extra is paid for child care and transport costs.

What business is it of yours?
I see that your manners have not improved.

Oh, and I'm a taxpayer, so I take an interest in how my money is spent.

right, so then I have the right to know the personal finances of and benefits status of any fireman, copper, doctor, teacher, nurse etc etc?
No, but then they don't have the power to make laws that affect you. Those that want such power should expect to be subject to scrutiny.

How do you know she is claiming full benefits. You cant possibly know unless she has told you.
    Simple observation.

A local politician is a single mother with numerous children. She claims the full range of benefits - Housing, Income Support, Child Tax Credit and so on.

Now she has been elected, she will be claiming full council expenses. Will this affect her benefit claims? Or are such 'expenses' disregarded?
hang on a minute. Now i am all for the greedy MP's that shaft us all and steal everything that they can get their grubby hands on, having the book thrown at them. But how do you know that she hasnt already reported to the benefits people any expenses that she may of claimed? she may well of done, and if she has, then its none of your buisness !!!!. If you know and have concrete evidence that she hasnt and she is scamming the system then fine report her !! But make sure you have got all your facts right before you do !

That refers to business interests and the like.

Although you could perhaps say that a politician on handouts, voting for more handouts, is subject to a conflict of interest!

The question simply asked for the law to be clarified.
