Local politician on benefits?

A local politician is a single mother with numerous children. She claims the full range of benefits - Housing, Income Support, Child Tax Credit and so on.

Now she has been elected, she will be claiming full council expenses. Will this affect her benefit claims? Or are such 'expenses' disregarded?

    If they are expenses then they're disregarded.

    She can't be much of a politician if she's working less than 16 hours per week - the limit for claiming Income Support. Are you sure you've got that right?

    As long as she declares her overall income, it is not.

    How do you know she is claiming full benefits. You cant possibly know unless she has told you.

    Whilst my taxes pay for the wages of public servants, apparently giving me the right to know all about their activities, my purchases (which far outweigh my taxation - both direct and indurect) pay for the wages of private sector employees - Tesco, Morrisons, Asda, EDF, Shell, Admiral Group etc;
    how do I get access to the same info for them?

    Surely if the public sector is so full of overpaid staff, the private sector would be only too willing to publish all the wage and bonus structures within their organisations, to show how much more reasonable their approach is? :cool:

    Private businesses have no legal obligation to provide earning rates to anyone.

    They arent 'Public Servants' per se. Councillors and Politicians are, and as as has been widely demonstrated lately, many are, or have been on the fiddle.

    You are misinformed. You do not have the right to know all about the 'activities' of public servants just because your taxes pay for their wages. The details of what individual sundry doctors, nurses, civil servants etc earn are not normally available for your scrutiny. Only details of the remuneration of those elected to public office are generally regarded as being in the public domain. Just as the details of the remuneration of those elected to perform the duties of director of the likes of Tesco, Morrisons, Asda, EDF, Shell, Admiral Group etc are similarly in the public domain and can be obtained by scrutinising the published financial statements of the company in question, which will often also contain much information regarding the wage and bonus structures within those organisations as well.
