Costco do some 20litre Chevron oil that may fit the bill, you would need to check compatibility, but it is around £30 for 20litres.

It may not be top spec fully synth but should be good for an old smoker, from memory i think it is 10w40 semi synthetic.

There is a diesel oil and a petrol oil, i udes the diesel one when servicing a Xantia smoker i had a few years ago.

Okay so whats the difference between the 10/40 and the 15/40? I'm off to lidl tomorrow anyway so will have a look for sure.

I went to our local pug specialist who said it could be a number of things. After all its 18 yrs old. My dad has promised to buy me a newer car in Oct when I get my 1st yrs no claims and then giving it back to the brother.

As oil cools, it gets thicker, as it heats, it gets thinner.

The lower number, the 10 or 15, is a measure of how thin the oil stays at low temperature.
The higher number is how thick it stays at a hugher temperature. So the oil you put in a car is a blend, to give it a working range, generally the higher the number, the thicker it is.
    So a 0 -30 is very thin, a 20 -50 is thick.
    A 10 40 and a 15 40 are very similar.

    10W-40; -20°C to 50°C,
    15W-40 -15°C to 50°C,

but in reality when you start the engine there's not alot in it.

I shall try and nab my dads cost co card when he comes round tomorrow!

If anyone else has seen any other oil related bargains please let me know!

I've got a card, I'll have to keep my eye out for that as well.

I buy 20l of 10w 40 semi synthetic trade for £39 and I've never seen that beaten anywhere yet, and I always check the oil when I go.

DO NOT TAKE ANY NOTICE OF THIS ADVICE WHATSOEVER. 20w/50 is too thick for pretty much any engine in any car on the road in the UK, even classics. It will result in premature wear of the engine, it won't stop any rattling nor will it stop any oil leaks.
Sorry but I stand completely by what I said. My mother's 99 corsa takes 20/50 fine as well according to the manual, as did my old Hyundai Accent.

Could also a local Motor Factors (google 'em) who sell into the trade and for DIY peeps who have some nous.

You should be able top get 5l at a time rather than committing to 20l.

Whatever you do don't go using 1l at a time jobbies (unless you have no choice).

Before the economy burst like a teenager's boil, you could buy 5 litres of ASDA's pond scum oil for £3.28
