How much would you charge/pay for this?

wow really? You think I can charge more?? I'm really unsure of charging more as I'm afraid she'll say it's too expensive- saying this i don't know her at all so haven't a clue if she's on a tight budget or not!
She really wanted this particular design, she sent me an example of an invite she'd had and said she loved it and could I recreate it... which I've been able to do so it is really specific to what she wanted and so she must have her heart set on the design but I guess I'm just afraid she'll say iti's too much and then I'll miss out on the business... :S0 -
How long did you take to recreate it? If you spent a long time then she should be expected to cover your time. They really are lovely- a 'normal,' handmade card is being sold for £2.20 in our local garden centre; and these are certainly a cut about that.
She has specifically comissioned you to recreate a card which is a one off and make each one individually. She should expect to pay for it!
How long will in take for you to fulfil the order? That should also have an influence on what you charge.0 -
i agree with midnightraven3. if you want to charge the going rate, then its cost times three, as a minimum
i think you will find she knows exactly how much these cost to buy elsewhere, and is thinking that a friend of a friend home business, wont charge the going rate or will be so desperate for the business, will do it for less
a quick search shows most origami style invites are about £8ea

£8 each?? OMG that is crazy! After having slept on it I'm erring towards £3.50. They are unique and she really likes the design so I don't feel too uncomfortable about charging her over £3 now you've pointed these things out! I have asked a few of my friends what they would pay for it and they have said no more than £2 :S This is why I was concerned! But a lot of my friends have only just left uni and what not so i guess they are a different stage of their lives with little money to splash out on wedding invitations?!0

OH my goodness! I just posted this in the sub board above "Weddings and anniversaries" and look at the response I got??? 80p!!!!!! 80p??!?!??!0

She is a friend of a friend so not really a friend of mine but like you say it is expensive before you even add profit on! I am sending her the sample on Monday along with the price per item but I really can't think of what to charge!! I have had a little look at some handmade items online and it looks at about £3 do you think that would be reasonable or does it make you gasp with horror?!
sorry but i think that is really over priced, i could make something simlar with cheaper cards etc for 10p on materials. By no means am i saying its your fault the materials cost so much, but maybe u could try a different idea as i doubt she is going to pay £3 an invite when you can have propper printed ones done on snapfish for about 10p each.Mummy of a beautiful little boy and fanatical about christmas

I don't think you could make it for 10p, considering the paper has to be a certain quality to be able to fold over and over again without ripping. Go on, go for it, recreate it for 10p I'll love to see it! It includes: Textured ivory card on the bottom, textured ivory card inside which will have the message printed on it in metallic green ink, ivory ribbon through loop holes hidden inside the folds, mulberry paper of 110gsm to ensure the folds are strong enough to not rip and pearl hearts oh and a handmade envelope made from mulberry paper. Have a go and see how far 10p gets you.0

Plus not to mention it took hours to create a template to ensure all angles were correct so it would fold properly and it takes about 30 minutes to make (i'm hoping to get this down to 15 mins per card)0

As my other posts have said this is the design she really wants. She doesn't want something you could just print on snap fish, she wants a design which will open up and be something very different. She sent me an example of one which she loved that she was sent and said this is exactly what she wants. So I stuck with her brief. If you look online at other handmade cards you will see they charge between £2.80-5.00 on average for cards which have a lot of work in them. Snapfish can charge silly amounts because they just reel them off, they don't spend 30 minutes measuring, folding, sticking, cutting, making an envelope by hand...0 -
You are clearly talented. Although the design is not to my taste, it is what she wants and the effort yo have put in to them is clear. I made some for my friend last year as a favour and although I didn't charge many people commented on them and said they imagined they would have cost the bride £3-£5 each, and these were a much simpler design. So I think anywhere between £2.50-£5.00 is perfetly reasonable, just depending on what you feel comfortable charging and what she can afford to pay. I am sure between you you can come up with a reasonable figure.
Personaly, I would pay between £3.50-£4.00
Hope that helps."More people would learn from their mistakes if they weren't so busy denying them." - Harold J. Smith:cool:0
