Santander eSaver

Despite forbodings about customer service, I applied for a Santander eSaver account a few days ago.
I did so only because it has one of the highest instant access interest rates at the moment.

Santander sent an email to say the account is open and gave the account details.

Despite having existing online banking accounts with B&B, A&L and Abbey (all now taken over by Santander) it appears that I have to re-register for online banking before I can manage the new account.

The online registration form requires that you enter a card number.
But I don't have a card!
So now I have to phone customer services.
I already have five bodings.

After reading several postings on this forum about Santander, I've decided to abandon my new eSavings account before I deposit any funds. There must be another online instant access account with better customer service paying around 3% ?

Nationwide do an e ISA at 3.10%.

Never experienced any problems with their online banking service.

I bank(ed) with A&L, I too opened this eSaver accoun (3%)t - I had no problem linking into my A&L online banking - it all just worked.

BTW When I logon to A&L it does now say Santander but I'm using my A&L login.

    I hope that helps

But that rate only applies if you have a Nationwide card account.

I have generally found that banks and building societies that are criticised for poor customer service have this criticism levelled at them based on branch service and not online services. Frankly looking at the queues in any bank or building society on a Saturday morning, I would run a mile and say it looks like service is poor.

On the odd occasion that I have had to use branch services I see so many people in there doing transactions that could be done online or through an ATM. It never ceases to amaze me how many people think they can only use the ATM of their own issuing bank. I know there are some accounts that do operate this way but many ATM cards can be used across almost the entire ATM network - time for a bit of education I think.

I have used Santander online services for some time without problem and I have recently opened a couple of the new eSaver accounts and successfully linked them.

So what - maybe dosh37 has used up hidd ISA allowance - I have so this suggestion is not relevant.

Anyway if a person has a problem with one online banking system they may have difficulties with another.

  • I too opened a new Santander esaver account and the guy in branch said I would have to set up a Santander ebanking account as I wouldn't be able to access from the old A&L portal.

Although they sent me all the details necessary, in tghe meantime I looked on my existing A&L profile (add accounts) and it was there and I was able to register and use it the same day.

In general, the old A&L system is much more user-friendly than the Santander one - about time they sorted all this out with a new single site, preferably with the best bits from each of the old ones?

They should sort the log on out as it is not secure ,we should not have type the whole password out ,key stroke logger can easily get your password .

If you download Trusteer Rapport Security Software from the A&L/Santander website, also recommended by many other banks, it will protect your PC from Key Stroke Loggers among many other threats.

I too am still able to use my A/L Log In details to access my Santander accounts including a new eSaver 3 Account.
