Bought car, not as described and found receipts for work are fake.

Hi, I am new to the forum and have registered as desperate for advice.
I bought a car last week only to find it not as described when I got it home. I paid good money for the car and the reason I wanted it was because of the internal engine work and other tuning work it had done.
Firstly I noticed items on the receipts were not fitted to the car. So I decided to check out the work by phoning the companies on the receipts. I came to a dead end as these companies don't even exist and the names addresses and phone numbers were fictitious. All of the receipts for the work done were fake and made on the sellers computer. The seller has admitted this over the phone but has not offered a refund.
Where do I stand legally to get my money back? or a partial refund? The car is booked in with a specialist garage to confirm the work hasn't been done in writing. The seller is 330miles away.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks.

Did you buy it on ebay? How did you make a payment? Give us the details. If you bought it on ebay you are protected. Take your evidence to the cops and i think they are in for forgery and cheating. This post provides guidance only. It does not constitute financial advice0

Bought cash. The car was on Ebay and sold but the seller said the buyer couldn't get the money so offered it to me on a private sale. Called cops and they said it's more of a civil case. I'm not sure how to go about this. He has admitted to me that most of the ad on ebay was fictitious. Now I feel he's laughing in my face. It cost me 200 to get there and back as I wanted THAT car with THAT specification.
Thanks for the reply.0 -
have you told him you want a refund or just waiting for him to offer one?0

Small claims court will be your only option, write to the seller (guess you have his address) outling all the problems and the resolution you would like. It has to be reasonable, i.e a full refund plus costs and you give him the car back or a sensible refund, the refund would be what you paid minus the true market value, with maybe a bit more. Personally I would go for a full refund and costs and hand him the car back. Send the letter via recorded delivery giving him x amount of days to respond. If he doesn't respond then file a claim online and go through the process. There isn't really much more you can do.....legallyEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

How did you come to buy the car?
Did you contact the seller throught ebay?
Do you still have any of your emails?
Do you have anything from the seller to link the car to the advert and the fact it is a modified car? Other than the paperwork you have.0 -

From your account, it certainly is not a civil case. I would say it is fraud or 'obtaing money or services by deception' which is contary to the theft act 1968.
The seller has deliberately produced false documents to persuade you to purchase the vehicle which cannot be anything else but deception. Go to the police station with all the documents and ask them to investigate.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
Contact Trading Standards - this is a fraudulent sale.
Have you made a copy of the ebay ad and all the correspondence?0
