accounts that dont have a debit card

Options
ok please stick to answering my question this is the second time i am asking this today due to some folk just having nothing better to do than criticise me and the way i manage my finances etc

i want a basic bank account, no overdraft, no debit or maestro facility, my wages in, direct debits out and withdraw money from the cash machines, also one that has fair charges should i go overdrawn ie barclays is only £8.

i had a look at the basic accounts which look ok but they still give you a debit card. i have also asked at the banks before and they said they dont do an account without the debit maestro facility.

i want to force myself to use cash and stop using my bank card to buy stuff,

I think CoOp do a cash card account and Natwest deffo do.

It's the one under the Step account.

Given the offensive nature of your responses on the other thread, I was in two minds whether to post this, but I will anyway.

Even if you open an account that doesn't have a debit card, you need to take control of your account balance. This isn't very difficult to do and doesn't take very long. On payday, take a sheet of paper and write down your account balance. Then subtract all of your monthly bills/direct debits. Each time you spend money (whether on a debit card or cash machine), write down how much you've spent and subtract it from the total. Keep a calculator next to the sheet of paper so it is easy to work this out.

My other piece of advice would be to ALWAYS ask for and keep a receipt. Stuff it in your wallet and use it to update your records when you get home. That way, you'll never forget that a payment was made.
  • With the Barclays Cash Card Account you can opt for either a Visa Debit Connect card or just a simple ATM Card as you require.

    Lloyds TSB cash account.
Can I find out my credit score?
You do not have a single credit score or rating. Different organisations take different information into account when working out your credit score and may have different scores for different products. (Kindly from Experian)

Natwest and RBS both offer a basic cash account. However, as soon as you add direct debits into the mix you risk bank charges if you haven't budgeted accurately. Your other thread refers to spending online, you won't be able to do that with anything other than a credit/debit card.

Personally I'd opt for Lloyds but recommend you stay clear of Barclays.

The Lloyds one comes with a Visa debit card though, OP wants an account without a debit card

  • Coventry Building Society's CallSave MoneyManager account has a Link/PLUS ATM only card, and direct debits. You can open it online, service it online, or by phone, or in branch, if you live near a branch.

Yorkshire Building Society's Cash Transactor is also the same, though I've never tried it.
