Had a small bump in a car park two weeks ago. No damage to my car but a slight bump on the other car.
Gave the other driver my number, they called that evening to get the insurance details. They then said they'd call me if they were going to bother claiming - they never did.
Anyway, totally forgot about it (yeh, my fault). Got a letter from my insurer now asking me to ring them - fair enough because it looks like the other party has claimed.
However, also got a letter from Brownsword group telling me they want to visit me to get a statement. Checked their website and it seems they're some sort of insurance fraud investigators.
Whats going on? I'm not up to anything. Or are they being funny because I didnt report it straight away?

Maybe they're investigating the other person and they want to take a statement from you about the accident to make sure it's legit?0

Youre supposed to inform your insurance company of any incident, whether claiming or not.
Its in your terms and conditions, all ins. companies use a central national database, which is why they have been able to get hold of you.
Its just as well you havent made a claim in the meantime, they could have invalidated it because you broke the contract with them by
not informing them.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Because the post your referring to is a different matter altogether.
A number plate is worth what, a tenner, informing your insurance company, they would laugh their socks off at you.
A small bump could cost hundreds, so a different mattr altogether.
I had someone scrape my wheel arch down to the metal last year, it cost not much under £1k to put it right.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

They do tell you to inform the insurance company when you have an accident but if the other person decides it's not worth the hassle; then you end up with an accident on your record and increased premiums.0

There not different though as its still a bump.........You have seriously contradicted yourself.
If I was the OP and the other didn't make it clear they were going to claim then there would be no need for me to inform the insurers.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
Its a completely different matter, why are you being so pedantic.
You should be using your excellent powers of observation to help the OP which is what this site is for and not attacking me.
I know what I said and I meant what i said.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I'm not attacking you so no need to be so dramatic but your saying that you have to inform your insurer of a bump then advising someone not to contact their insurer after a bump which is it??
If the OP isn't making a claim then there should be no real concern for him/her they are more likely investigating the other party who waited 2 weeks or more to make a claim, probably after they hit a lamp post or something and are claiming the OP caused the damage. The OP should phone their insurer and ask them whats going on.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
Big difference between a lamp post and a cracked number plate, like I said, they would laugh at you if you informed them of a cracked number plate which cost a tenner. But if we are getting down to pedantics then yes, you should inform them if you want to stick strictly to the the terms and conditions.
But would you inform them of a cracked number plate, i wouldnt and that was the advice i gave the op, for what it was worth. Im beginning to wish I hadnt even bothered to he honest.
Anyway, OP hope all goes well for you and things get sorted
