Anyone not fixing?

However I have just fixed with EDF until 2014. It will add £25pm to my DD. It's a gamble isnt it? I think the trouble in the middle east, the cost of green initiatives, the problems with nuclear energy following the japan earthquake, and the fact that oil and gas are finite resources, will all combine to drive energy prices up. There is also the added issue of peace of mind. I'll be very happy to put the whole issue to the back of my mind now until 2014.
I've done exactly the same thing and for the same reasons. It's the first time I've let the 'fix now' hype get to me but I do think we are in for some more crazy price rises and the 2014 fix covers me for the next 3 Winters.0 -
I've fixed, but only to September 2012 on EDF's fixed s@ver 2 in response to the increase to online s@ver 7. The two tariffs now work out pretty much the same for my usage so it was a no brainer really to avoid any further unpleasant surprises.
I dismissed the 2014 fix as the premium was far to much for me on something that would lock me in to EDF for 3 years. If I'd opted for that tariff my electric unit rates would have nearly doubled from OSV7 rather than go up 2p a unit.0 -

Just modelling on some fairly aggressive assumptions, I think you may pay 15% more for the duration of the fix.
Then again, my aggressive assumptions may be way off the mark, either way.
I favour your historical approach.

Is that the correct comparison though?
For me, compared to SP direct, the EDF September 2012 fix represents an additional 5% premium, to fix for essentially a year once the switch has completed.
Until SP put up the price you will pay that premium per month. We might expect SP to do the dirty and increase the price for the winter ,in say, November.
I guess, this one will be pretty close to break even, maybe you will pay a bit over for fixing.0 -
Still giving my move to EDF Fixed 14 from online EDF saver 7 a mulling over. Checked energyhelpline again and the premium for me is 13% on current prices to go with Fixed 2014 from online 7 so I think I've finally gonna let the switch go through.0

I have for the last 3 years been on the Staywarm tariff with EON I currently pay £70 a month for gas & electric last year it stayed the same I had expected to go up! Putting in my usage for last year using a comparison site, the cheapest I could find was £74 a month. I did come across a fixed term deal until 2014 for £82 a month so do I wait to see the contract offer which will be from September 2011, or go for the fixed term deal ? I would be losing the advantage of Staywarm which is fixed for a 1 year contract and being able to use as much as I like for the length of the contract which does give peace of mind, although if abused I know it would certainly go up quite a bit on the next contract offer, so it's a dilemma! what would you good people advise. I will not be fixing when my Websaver comes to an end in July. I will prob go onto another Websaver or online saver- not decided yet. No one knows what will happen to the prices and how much they will go up or down long term so I appreciated those that feel better fixing but I am going to take my chance and monitor. Since coming off my 2010 tariff I have always overpaid so the worst I will see is not much of a refund next time.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0
