im sorry but im one of those that like frozen turkey i have had free range and organic turkeys in the past but prefer frozen as for the difference in price i think 40 quid is a big difference if on a budget.

If you do prefer it then fair enough, but otherwise I'm not sure that getting a low-quality turkey for £5 is really money-saving, any more than boasting that instead of getting an Xbox 360 you've bought a really cheap Atari....

£40 is not that much for the #1 meal of the year. You could spend that in the local curryhouse. But anyway
    "Tesco Finest Bronze Turkey 4.4kg - 6.00kg " is £10 - not £10/kg, but just £10.

I'm sure there's better turkeys around, but at £10 for that, there's not much reason to buy a crappier £5 one.

Turkey is turkey, period. If it was something manufactured I might agree but as I was once bought a £25 bottle of wine and it didnt taste any better to me than a £5 bottle of wine, I'll stick to my crappier turkey.

Interesting. I've always bought a Matthews self baster. Before I went for those, I used to buy the cheaper non self basting but I always managed to dry the turkey out. I was wondering whether to splash out this year but I looked at the price of a goose and blanched somewhat! Maybe I'll try the middle ground and go for the Bronze turkey if there's really that much of a difference.

I think I can settle this argument - if everyone sends me an invite to pop round to their houses for a nice roast turkey lunch, I'll volunteer to judge which tastes nicest lol.

I heard that you should put some onions/applys in the cavity to maintain the moisture! I never done that.

I have always cook with the breast side down first, then the last 30 mins or so, turn it over to brown it. It doesn't usually make it nicely sitting up when serving but it tastes less dry.

I think it depends more on the recipe than the type of turkey...

    hth.

p/s: I am hungry now we are talking about xmas dinner.......

    hi
It was on tv the other night you put a peeled onion or wedges of lemons or oranges
I always cook it breast side down at first and it stays moist
It is supposed to keep it moist i have never done that before
Can anyone tell me if they have done this as im a bit worried about trying it
  • Hi

I have bought a frozen 6kg bronze turkey this week from Tesco for £10 !!!

I couldn't believe they could be bought so cheaply - I paid a heck of a lot more than that when I bought one about 5 years ago, and it was a superb tasty bird. I can thoroughly recommend them.

DH says he thinks broze birds are best but I don't think he's referring to turkeys. :rolleyes2 :rolleyes2

Hope they got a big one left, I need one for N year. Mother's doing turkey on Christmas day, she normally gets a fresh one and my chef brother bones it out.
When I worked for tesco 100's of years ago there were always huge 24lb turkeys left after Christmas that got kicked around the freezer and eventually sold cheap.
