I'm sorry to hear about the redundancy, but congratulations on your pregnancy!

You say you're buying a flat - I wonder if this was decided before you became pregnant? Were you planning to get pregnant? I ask because often (not always!) people decide to move FROM flats into houses with gardens, once children come along.

I may be completely misreading the situation, so ignore me if that's the case! At any rate, I hope your husband gets a job soon, whatever you decided to do about moving.

Technically his circumstances haven't changed until after the 30 day consultation period. After that point their hr department will not be able to confirm he is permanently employed.

You've probably spent £1500 so far?

You're about to spend min 10% on deposit?

You're husband has a high risk of losing his job.

Ask your husband if it is better to £1500 now, or the 10% deposit when he can't find a job and the bank repossesses the flat and sells it to the highest bidder, quite possible given you no money back.

It is so much easier and significantly less stressful for you both if you stay where you are and carry on saving until your futures are a bit more secure.

Congrats on the pregnancy though and good luck - you'll need it!:p

christ....you have just escaped by the skin of your teeth...i feel for you but someone is looking down because if you have exchanged you would be up the creek. good luck and maybe the market will fall and fall in the meantime and you will be able to buy a house when you get on your feet.
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

I too was wondering why you were going for a flat. Flats are quite stressful with babies - obviously i know nothing of your situation but - crying babies, noises from all sides, stairs and prams, no garden. Most people once baby comes along cannot wait until they move to a house.

I was approved for my mortgage while on maternity leave, so that should be fine. But the loss of your OH wages if joint will impact that.

Flats aren't that bad with Babies, although we do live on the bottom and have a small private garden to the front.
