Web hosting+domain name (but want to own the domain)

Hi
I am wanting to set up a Wordpress-based site (using Thesis) with a .com domain name.
I'm after reasonable priced but reliable hosting for this where ideally I can register the domain name at the same time.
However it's important that I own the domain name (I believe places like Hostgator own it not you).
Any suggestions?
thanks

You can buy the domain name from the company I use, https://www.hostsphere.co.uk.
Out of interest why a .com? They are commonly used by American companies. Also cost around £9.99 a year compared to a .co.uk which is £6.98 for 2 years. You csn also do your hosting through them as well.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -
Thanks guys
@Steve - it's a .com as a fair amount of the target market are Americans. I will be purchasing the .co.uk as well which will forward to it.

a .com is not just for the American market, but i agree with you. if i register a .uk domain i will also register the .com also and visa versa, if neither are available i will look at other domain names.
Most hosts will allow you to register a domain at the same time as taking out hosting. look at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=450 -
I use TSOHosts as they're quite competitive and have provided me with very fast responses to any queries, pre and post purchase of services from them.... much better than Easyspace who I also have some domains and services with.
