PC world is doing the Philips one for £29
http://tiny url.com/sk8yv remove the space

Also an LG 18x drive for £30
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/556543
Does it matter much that the DVD RW on sale are labled 16x?

Here's all of them
http://tiny url.com/seph4 remove the space

Should I avoid any of the cheap ones? i.e. are the LG £25 any good?

Which would you get? the LG 18x, the Philips 16x, the Benq 16x, the LG 16x?

Are these PC world prices anygood? I know that Tesco is selling Liteon and Philips 16x for £45

Could I get them cheaper anywhere else? or is this as good as it gets?

I would also like to eventually convert them to multiregion drives, so does anyone have any experience if say a philips or LG 16x is easy to convert?

    LG drive, £20 + delivery..

These are mostly bare drives, so if you don't have Nero, you'll need to add it to the basket, which bumps the price up a couple of quid.

PC World are rarely the cheapest.

The phillips ones have a nice big eject button, but any of those brands are ok..

Thank you for your info, I'll have to consider whether buying it now from PC world (cost 4 pounds in petrol) is better than saving money and losing time. Maybe I'll have to see if there is a computer shop in my local town centre - I think there might be, your link at least gives me an idea of the cheapest prices.

    Heh heh, :D

I found out LiteOn have released a 20X dvd drive so I decided to wait until after xmas to spend a bit of time looking for one of those. I discovered the models are:
    Lite-on LH-20A1P = No Lightscribe
Lite-on LH-20A1H = Lightscribe - not stocked anywhere except a dealtime reference to amazon.uk £33 out of stock...Amazon does not list this item ???

I have so far found these prices - still looking for the lightscribe version.

    overclockers.co.uk
LiteON LH-20A1P-487C - no mention of lightscribe or not on the website!
    £25.84 inc VAT + 4.33 delivery
    Total £30.17
Adding more items, delivery rises to £9.40 <<<bad (see below)

    microdirect.co.uk
Lite-on LH-20A1P-487C - no mention of lightscribe or not!
    £25.97inc VAt +£5.86 delivery
    Total £31.83
room to add at least 3.5Kg to basket at no extra cost

    bigpockets.co.uk
Liteon 20x LH-20A1 P-487C DL - no mention of lightscribe or not!
    £26.99 inc VAT + £5.75 delivery
    Total £32.74
room to add 3.5 Kg to cart at no extra cost

    scan.co.uk
Liteon 20x LH-20A1 P-487C - tells you no lightscribe (the only site which did)
    £25.25incVAT + £7.02 delivery
    Total £32.28
Room in basket for loads more before delivery rises

You can render any Lite-ON drive region-free with this utility; most other drives require modified firmware to be installed.

    Hi Wig

I've been looking to buy a DVD RW too.
I think that the best prices for the LiteOn DW1670-488 (Not lightscribe) are from Savastore and Ebuyer.
£21.41 and £23.56 respectively including VAT and postage.
I'm not sure that it's worth paying any extra for a 20X model.
Also will need to think about some software.
    These are the links:-

    and

Yeah, if you want cheap as chips a 16x is prolly your best bet, but for an extra £9 - £10 I think it might be worth the extra to go for a 20x

Is anyone able to explain in layman terms how fast a 16x is an 18x and a 20x (theoretically) I think it's something to do with the time taken to burn 150MB or similar.
