digital photo frames?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but The Gadget Show did a feature on digital photo frames a few months ago and said they were all basically awful. Not just the cheap ones either they looked at ones that were hundreads (and I even think thousands) of pounds. They were difficult to use and to get your photos on to and the picture wasn't clear enough to enjoy looking at the photos.

Yes - why do they do that, I think they are more intrested in show off their transitions than our pictures. This is just a silly software limitation, its just a counter in the firmware no extra cost to give a more sensible range of optionslimited times between transitions only allowing upto 10 seconds per picture
The Jessops one looks good but again max picture time is 30 sec
Given a lot of these are going to be given to grandparents to see pictures of little jimmy/jenny, by the time grandma says to her friends, what a lovely picture of little jimmy/jenny its moved on to the next picture
re Gadget show, whilst they might get to see more frames than I might, and I'm not sure thats really the case, since most of their reviews only cover 3 or maybe 4 wildly differing products, and then, they are often more concerned with how well it survives an explosion at close range or dunking in a pond than any real world considerations0 -

FWIW I looked at a couple of types side-by-side in Selfridges a while back. Philips and another cheaper make whose name I forget (though I think it was four letters and began with 'A' or 'I'!). There was a huge difference in picture quality, the Philips being very good, and the other one virtually unusable.Stompa0 -

I think that's the Aigo one - it's got a really poor resolution. The Philips gets consistantly good write ups, but it's soooo pricey. I'd resent paying that much as I feel in a couple of months the prices will drop dramatically.0 -

Hope so...it's barmy you get get a laptop for £299, yet people want £100+ for a photo-frame. Manufacturing costs will be less than a tenner.0 -
John Lewis prices are £150+ for a panasonic version, looks very neat but not worth the money. Ebuyer were doing some cheap last time i looked but PC world £50 seems to be the cheapest at the moment.

Cheap ones do look poor but Aldi stuff is usually very good. I've got a lot of experience with their technology, they never fail to impress. Something like this pic frame should really be sampled first though.
Or do what I've done and make one out of my old laptop. Im kinda handy with a tenon saw and tube of glue ...oh and PC's. Its really cool and the picture quality is top notch...
Dell Lattitude, compact flash hard disk, FreeDOS and a free DOS picture slide show application.0 -
TheflyingGerbil is right the picture quality is not very good at all. I found this out through personal experience. "So all that view be aware you have been Warned""Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0
