I don't understand. I thought policy holders had a legal obligation to inform their insurers of any collisions whatsoever? Or at least an obligation under the terms and conditions of their policy? Yet people on here are always going on about sorting things out between themselves.

Yes and no, the insurers though will just make a £20 number plate replacement into a £300 claim putting both parties premiums up in the long run, is it really worth it for £20??

When I bumped into a mondeo and put a lovely crease along both the front and rear door the mondeo owner got a quote to get the work done and it was £500 I paid him cash and it was done within the week, I very much doubt the insurer would have got it done so quick or so cheaply after they sent an assessor out etc. Both parties happy he got a lovely respray for his scratched up mondeo and I didn't have to pay an extra £100 on top of the £500 for the privelage of losing 4 years NCB.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

Because even if you have a no fault claim, involving a £10 number plate, that someone else has already replaced for you, your own insurer will normally increase your premium by £100, as you're now a greater risk, as you have been involved in an accident.
So now you're a £100 down, and the insurer has you for the next 5 years.

That information is correct, just the matter of contacting your insurance company, will be recorded on your history and will give you a higher premium!

But of course it's in your t&c's to notify them, as if you don't shop yourself, they will never find out, and won't be able to raise your premiums accordingly.

Its not a LEGAL requirement its a procedural one, one of "private policy" you would at best be in breech of contract.
There is ASFIK no legitimisation or act of parliament stating you must tell your insurance company about a minor bump.
Then again with 14,000 new legislative acts (laws) as we commonly call them in the last 10 years its hard to know what you are doing write or wrong any more, how many can you name ? remember ignorance of them is no defence.

Get the car professionally checked out.

You havent indicated how hard the car hit you, but bumpers are designed to pop back out into place, even though there may be internal damage.

I was 'rear ended' a couple of years ago. Externally it looked like there was just a crack in the paint on the bumper, internally the 'inner' bumper was buckled and the tow bar was damaged. They also had to replace the rear bumper as brackets holding it in place had been damaged.

All in all what looked like even to my trained eye (i'm a motor trader) to be maybe £200 tops came to £2800.

    Hi,

Just wanting a bit of advice.
Just nipped out in car with my boyfriend - he was driving and a lady hit us in the rear bumper whilst we were stopped waiting to go at a round-a-bout.
Nothing major it just appears to be a cracked number plate on boyfriends car, bumper isn't marked and nothing on her car.
We exchanged details incase there is underlying damage to boyfriends car.
Clearly her fault and she was fine about it - we said we will inform her of the next steps.
We are thinking of having the car checked at a garge just to make sure it is just the number plate.
If it is just the number plate she will pay for replacement.
Anything more and we will obviously inform insurance and let them deal with it all.

    Is this ok?

    Must be a troll ?

I thought every accident, oops, collision had to end with incredible back and neck pains and require visits to doctors and physio's to pass the rarely contested £2k whipcash payout ?

My goodness, so nice to hear a rare story like this, must be a troll :D :T you sure you don't have double vision, if so, give Mr Patel a call, he will help ;)

On a serious note, I would have a garage check the underside and boot area, cars are designed to deform in collisions and absorb energy away from the occupants, which is why the majority of whipcash collisions are fraudulent but difficult to prove, and paid for by the motorists premiums, lovely to hear an honest story, rare, but nice:T

Careful, according to certain people on the forum, that statement is racist.... No matter how factual it may be.... Im surprised that entire website hasn't been shutdown.

And you forgot something, you have to claim for your own injuries + the 8 passengers that couldn't even fit into the car if they tried, I mean they barely fit into the house that we (the tax payer) provides for them all.
