Hit by other driver - possibly just cracked number plate

Hi,
Just wanting a bit of advice.
Just nipped out in car with my boyfriend - he was driving and a lady hit us in the rear bumper whilst we were stopped waiting to go at a round-a-bout.
Nothing major it just appears to be a cracked number plate on boyfriends car, bumper isn't marked and nothing on her car.
We exchanged details incase there is underlying damage to boyfriends car.
Clearly her fault and she was fine about it - we said we will inform her of the next steps.
We are thinking of having the car checked at a garge just to make sure it is just the number plate.
If it is just the number plate she will pay for replacement.
Anything more and we will obviously inform insurance and let them deal with it all.
Is this ok?

Yes it's fine.
When I was rear ended even thpough it was a slow bump, my rear shock coil springs sheared through, so getting it checked at the garage is a good idea.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

get it checked, if its just the plate buy one and send her a written paper bill direct because if your insurance get involved your premiums will sky rocket for the next few years.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. We thought better to be safe than sorry.
Would a garage charge for check?
My dad is going to have a look tomorrow as he is pretty well up on his cars0 -

That's what we are hoping to do - new plate, send her bill, she pays (she seemed nice and genuine) - simple.
Am 99% sure this will be what the outcome will be but just came on here for a bit of reassurance as I worry about things unnecessarily0 -

If there is more damage than you originally thouht and she has admitted liability you can deal directly with her insurance company, of
course you have to inform your insurance company and make sure that they know its for 'information only' some companies will up your premium, some wont. It is a requirement of all insurance companies that you have to inform them, if you dont you are breaking your contract and your insurance will be voided next time you claim if they find out, All motor insurances use a central data base so its not hard.
If it is just the number plate to replace just get a new one and say nowtmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I certainly wouldn't involve in the insurance at all UNLESS YOU HAVE TO!! not even for information purposes, get the car checked out first thing tomorrow and see what happens there. If there is going to be more than a number plate get a quote and call the person who hit you. They maybe happy to just pay for it and have it done, everyone is pleased.
If you inform the insurance company, regardless if a claim is made they will suspend the other parties NCB for 12 months, which is pretty harsh if it is just a number plate, best to deal with it person to person if you can for such a small thing.
If you can't get the car looked at until next week then it maybe best to get the insurers involved as they may start asking why you have left it so long if you don't ring them till the end of next week for example.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0
