  • Don't think it is a North/South thing - I'm a northener and had never had it, but my southern husband always had it with his christmas dinner.

I too - thought Yuck - until I tried the proper homemade stuff -it is really yummy! Oddly seems to mix well with the gravy too...
  • Nope, im a northerner, and i've never heard of it till someone mentioned it a few weeks ago.
  • im a northerner too and have just heard all about it to be honest the thought of soggy bread and milk makes me feel quite ill. I hate bread and butter pudding too just for the sheer fact its milk and soggy bread. ewwwwww........ sorry to all those that love it i will just have to take your word for it lol.

I had never had bread sauce until i had christmas dinner at my boyfriends house now my DH. I was only 17 and trying to impress my MIL to be. I was helping her put the dinner out and poured the bread sauce over the cauliflower and brocoli. Luckily she found it really funny. I love it now. We are both northeners and she said she had always had bread sauce with her christmas dinner.

I make Turkey gravy using the juice from the bird but I can't imagine having that mixed with some yucky white sauce all over my veggies and mash.

I agree! I had never even heard of bread sauce until we went to dinner at a relatives a few years ago and she served it with roast beef.

I don't see the point of it at all and its something we never had on our Christmas dinners when I grew up. We always had apple sauce and I just can't have my Christmas dinner without this!!!
  • It's one of those funny things that I absolutely adore and can eat it on it's own til I burst - but only think about at Christmas. It freezes really well and the only thing I'd add to the recipes that have been mentioned is to bring it to the boil once the bread is in, not just heat it.
