Bread sauce - WHY?

Don't think it is a North/South thing - I'm a northener and had never had it, but my southern husband always had it with his christmas dinner.
I too - thought Yuck - until I tried the proper homemade stuff -it is really yummy! Oddly seems to mix well with the gravy too...0

I had never had bread sauce until i had christmas dinner at my boyfriends house now my DH. I was only 17 and trying to impress my MIL to be. I was helping her put the dinner out and poured the bread sauce over the cauliflower and brocoli. Luckily she found it really funny. I love it now. We are both northeners and she said she had always had bread sauce with her christmas dinner. When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile 0 0

I agree! I had never even heard of bread sauce until we went to dinner at a relatives a few years ago and she served it with roast beef.
I don't see the point of it at all and its something we never had on our Christmas dinners when I grew up. We always had apple sauce and I just can't have my Christmas dinner without this!!!0

It's one of those funny things that I absolutely adore and can eat it on it's own til I burst - but only think about at Christmas. It freezes really well and the only thing I'd add to the recipes that have been mentioned is to bring it to the boil once the bread is in, not just heat it.0
