Letting agent refusing to allow Periodic Tenancy

Can I just point out that you only have the word of the [STRIKE]spiv[/STRIKE] LA that he is 'best buddies' with the LL. If I was the LL and had him handling 15 properties for me I'd be pretty miffed with him for losing me a good tenant for the sake of an extra £60 for the agent!!
Ditto what i thought.0 -
Is the agency Countrywide?
We were with them, and they were very aggressive about us renewing the AST. Hubby hung up on them and a letter followed in the post confirming we would be going onto a Periodic Tenancy....0 -
@Gleeful
Priors, but it sounds like they're all the same...
Exciting development over this w/end though, in talks with a friend to possibly rent (privately) from them instead.
Will be requesting LLs details as advised on here and will be sending them a letter to let them know that we would have happily stayed in the flat for many years if it hadn't been for the aggressive, illegal, and unprofessional actions of the LA.
Hopefully this will inspire her to move her 15 properties elsewhere - and if not, not my problem anymore.0 -
You need to bear in mind that if the agents don't get their fat fees for renewing the rental agreement they will bust a gut to ensure that the tenants vacate so they can charge the landlord another, much larger fat fee for finding a new tenant. One way or another they will do almost anything to get that revenue in as 10% of the rent collected won't keep them in hair-gel0

Hello OP
He's talking sh*t! sh*t! sh*t!
Ask him for the contact details of the LL which he has to provide but will proberbly tell her a load of rubbish about you before you get to speak to her.
He's going mental because he's a sad wideboy who thinks your stupid but he's been busted good and proper. Stick to your guns and refuse to deal with him sooner or later the LL will come knocking and you can spill the beans on exactly how he behaves towards her tenants.
Also i bet a millions dollors she isn't a proffessional friend of his he's just desperate to keep you on contract!
What a saddo!0 -
Sounds a bit like my LA to be honest. The LL of my house apparantly has loads of properties with this agent, they refused a periodic tenancy and wanted a year's tenancy instead because they wanted an increase in rent (fair enough previous year we negotiated it down). I have had loads of arguments over the phone with my LA. We don't know our LL either, according to the LA he doesn't want to talk to tenants!0

Our tenancy ran from June to end of December. Obviously with it being Christmas and New year time we expected to receive the next contract early. It didnt come until February with a letter asking us to sign. Where is it now? In a drawer, unreturned. They let it go periodic themselves, not my problem. Ive never been asked for it so I guess they will leave it until that one should have ended and then I probably wont sign the next one either. Dont get me wrong, we love living here absolutely, and cant see ourselves moving at all so it just seems silly to keep paying and signing these contracts.:j0
