BT Home hub problems

Hi guys,
new kid on the block here. I'm usually pretty good when things break down on my computer but I am currently being plagued with problems on my BT home hub.

The wireless and broadband lights are on, but the internet and data lights are off. I have phoned BT for all the good ii did me. The call adviser wasn't any help. They wanted me to start examining the phone socket on the wall by taking it apart.

I would like to know if anyone out there has had simillar problems and is there a way to fix it.

Many thanks
Jason Chapman

Don't suppose you belong to 'Twitter' do you?

I had problems with my router (turning itself on and off) I spoke to #btcare about it and in less then 24hrs a brand spanking new router was on it's way and they followed up to check (a) it arrived & (b) did I need any help setting it up.

Must admit phoning BT generally is a waste of time but this way worked like a dream for me, 100% satisfaction this time round

Have you tried using an ethernet cable (that will make the internet light flash and also the data one too) If you have not connected properly via wireless then you won't see much on IP/Data lights at all.

The bt home hub should have come with an ethernet cable (yellow or black depending on the bt home hub you have). As stated above, plug the ethernet in and try again. My laptop can then suddenly find the wireless internet...

Bt will tell you to do the same thing if you do call them and do manage to reach someone...

I have bt infinity and my internet went down for five days.

They had me re booting both boxes and i said it was the white open reach box that was faulty but according to bt i knew nothing and they were the experts?

The dsl light was off and the orange light on the black box was on.

Bt engineer came out and i told him its the white open reach box and he changed it and it worked straight away.

Apparently they have a lot of white boxes that are being returned to the maker due to just dieing.

Yep, splitting the box on the wall is a normal part of the procedure as it eliminates the internal wiring of your house when you plug directly into the BT test socket.

Have a look at the troubleshooting here.

  • Thanks guys.
I think I have been through every trouble shooting exercise in the book but still no joy. I have connected my ethernet cable to my laptop, the data, broadband and wireless lights come on but still no internet. When BT ring later today 'hopefully' I am hoping we can sort something.

If it cannot be fixed then bye bye BT

The BT man came round today to take a look at our router, which incidentally I did manage to fix. I have tried all weekend and Monday to contact BT to cancel the repair. However I could not get hold of anyone.

To make matters worse the BT man knocked out our phoneline so we are now unable to make phone calls. So I'm calling sky this weekend to see what deal they can give me.
