I'm thinking of taking up BT broadband (already have BT line and unlimited calls) but still trying to work out best tarrif for me.
Now I'm concerned what happens if I get stuck like Jason Chapman1 and can't get through to anyone???

Will it be a case of "out of frying pan into fire???", Unfortunately am now with Talk Talk business who took over my ISP and made it worse.

I'm also aware that quidco are giving £100 cash back for total broadband packages, which makes it more attractive, but not much good if I'm going to have problems connecting.

Not everyone has problems nightowl. Id say BT get more exposure on here because of how big they are and how many subscribers but theres plenty of moans about others with crap CS all over the boards.

My BT line will not let me upload anything larger than a small photo since last Friday (5 days ago) and keeps disconnecting. I work from home. Despite phoning BT almost every day they have been unable to help. Is Virgin Media any better? I have been with BT for quite a few years but feel I am just going round and round in circles - try this, try that we will phone you tomorrow....

all very polite of course, but completely useless. And at the moment no prospect of any solution. I am seriously thinking of going to an internet cafe and just working from there.

I live in the countryside. Can anyone recommend an isp that's more helpful than BT when things go wrong?

I've been with BT for my phone and broadband for years and I can honestly say I've never had a problem , the broadband very rarely drops in fact I can only remember it happening once.. so not everyone has a bad service...

To be fair Tanith once they fixed it it worked great.

The issue is when it doesnt work - Because the subcontract pretty much everything its impossible to pin them down to any repair.

The call centre is contracted out to India.
They installation team is done via openreach - owned by BT but a seperate company.

What we are saying is when it works great - but when it doesnt getting a fix takes far too long and is far too complicated.

im quite satisfied with bt have been for a while (apart from when i tried to upgrade my broadband a couple of years ago they ended up cancelling my line and was left with no line for over a month)saying that though they gave us around 6 months free to say sorry.
The only trouble with bt is (especially if you have phone, broadband and tv) is that if one thing goes the whole lot does. ie phone line down, no broadband, no tv. Customer services are useless so it helps if your technically minded (slightly) and have mse at hand!
