Tft Monitor needed

My old pc monitor has decided to pack up on me. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a reasonably priced 15/17" flatscreen monitor? Haven't a clue about these things after being used to a Crt.

Thanks :rudolf:

I've bought four so far from http://www.misco.co.uk/

Cheap and quick but not the best company to deal with if things go wrong!
Basically too big, too much bureaucracy and the left hand doesn't know what the right hand's doing.

Sorry I have to disagree about Misco. I found them very good. This is a report I put on Rpoints Discussion Board on 13th December.

I was wondering if anyone has had any bad dealings with ARIA PC TECHNOLOGY. I ordered goods last week and had to pay £16.45 delivery charge. Goods arrived on Monday but the PC tower was damaged. I rang ARIA and was told I would have to email pictures of the damage. I told their employee Steve in Customer Services that I was nearly 60 and was unable to do so but this computer upgrade was a Christmas present for my daughter. He told me he would get this sorted with his colleague and get a new tower sent to me and he would ring me back to confirm. I have telephoned their 0870 number on numerous occcasions holding on for ten minutes at a time listening to music and special offers that they are having but never got speaking to anyone. It also tells you to e-mail and they will get back to you promptly. I also sent 3 emails and never got replies except an e-mail telling me that there is a sale starting on Friday. Eventually after another 20 minute phone call just now I did get speaking to someone who says there is an awful lot of paper work to get an item out free of charge and they may be able to get one out today or if not tomorrow. I had previously explained that the computer engineer was going on holiday for two weeks this Friday and I am sitting here with £241.76 worth of goods which are no good to me now and I am not allowed to return the goods and cancel the order. I wish I had gone to Misco which I have used many times before and when my screen went faulty they collected it next day and gave me a new one without any hassle.

I still have no joy from ARIA PC TECHNOLOGY. Only yesterday they told up to now me to use the broken tower until the new one comes. Still haven't dispatched the new one.

  • Thanks guys, will browse on those sites for one later. I only really want a smallish one, not a 19" coz I'll have it in my living room, and I can get a smaller desk thanks to the Crt blowing up, lol, about time! Someone said something about a response rate lower than 12 as part of a spec on a Tft which is better for gaming. Can anyone tell me any more?

You can disagree all you like but you can't change the facts. When things go wrong they are useless. I ordered two monitors (quantity = 2 in the order form). One arrived. I got the driver to check the paperwork and he had only one on his van. I emailed Misco. No reply after 2 days. I phoned and they told me they'd sort it out. I phoned next day and a different person told me she'd sort it out. I phoned next day and a different person told me the monitor had arrived back in stock so she'd issue a refund and I could order it again!

I checked my Paypal account and there was no refund. I checked the Misco site and the monitor was "no longer available". I phoned and another girl told me the monitor had come back but had been sold to someone else as it was the last one in stock. (I pointed out that I'd paid for it and it was MY monitor). She said she'd check on the refund and I could order a different monitor. (The original idea was to have two matching monitors in the office).

To cut a long story short, I eventually got a second monitor of a different make plus, unbelievably, a £20 refund as it was cheaper. I'm not too unhappy about the end result but I think the way they handle problems is abysmal. And they never found out why the carrier didn't deliver BOTH monitors as shipped.

So I'm saying buy from Misco. The standard service is fine. But if anything goes wrong with the delivery, be prepared to spend some time on the phone talking to people who haven't a clue what's going on.

I'm no expert on the regulations, but I believe that under the distance selling act, you have seven days in which to cancel your order from receipt of the goods. I don't know whether the reporting of the damaged goods counts as rejection, but I don't see why you should not be able to cancel the order considering the way you have been treated.

I think you should tell your sorry tale to one of the computer magazines if you don't get it sorted out to your satisfaction.

  • Hi

Thanks for your reply but apparently I cannot cancel my order and they have to make a claim from City Link before they can dispatch my new one. Last year I had a faulty monitor from Misco and they dispatched same day which I received the following afternoon and they took away the faulty one as well. Should have gone to Misco

Cheers and have a merry Christmas

Sorry but I can only go my previous dealings with this company and I found them to be good. Probably lots of people out there found Aria PC very good. I still have had no confirmation e-mail confirming goods have been dispatched which they said I would receive soon. Its too late now for Christmas as the computer engineer is away on holidays.

Wouldn't it be great if we all got our problems sorted out.

    Merry XMAS

    Hi

Jacqueline, as I said, I am no expert on these matters, only what I pick up from the magazines and newspapers, but I think their claim is cobblers! They have a contract with you to supply serviceable goods. This is what they should do and sort out their claim with City Link afterwards.

Perhaps you should contact Citizens Advice so you can get the correct advice and hopefully get it sorted out before Christmas.

Edit: Martin's own words from this site:

    "Examine goods and complain immediately.

The amount of time you have to check whether goods are faulty depends on what is reasonable for that product. E.g. it takes longer to check a speedboat than a kettle. However in truth you really should try and complain within a week. Do that and you are entitled to a full refund.

Leave it longer and providing the goods were faulty when you bought them your right to a full refund may be lost. However you’re still entitled to a replacement, a reduction, or a credit note. "
