    Hi,

have a look at this similar thread, post 11, might work for you also.

Thanks, I have turned the router off and back on, checked my date and time are correct, and still cant get onto it on chrome, ie or firefox. I am not having problems with any other website.

I am getting paranoid now thinking they have blocked me!

Edit cant get on thomson.co.uk which is their sister company????

I can get onto both sites if I use a proxy?

I had a similar problem where only one website was a problem. I spent hours trying stuff, rolling back, changing the hosts file. In the end I had to reinstall my laptop.

I have just tried on the DSi which uses the same router and it was ok, so obviously it is a problem on my PC.

    Any more ideas welcomed

    Thanks

I cant see why a holiday company like first choice would do that, I havent done anything naughty !

Is there a way that I can check if they have.

if you have tried to access the site too many times in a certain period some system will do this automatically without the site holder being aware.

the only way is to somehow contact the site owner and ask them to check your IP is not blocked on their server.

you can use a site like http://www.whatismyip.com/ to get your IP and then http://network-tools.com and add your IP and check to see if your IP is blacklisted

    Thanks for your help :

when I checked to see if my ip is blocked I got this

    I
I changed my AVAST settings and deleted 80 (whatever that means) and now get a different error

Error 118 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT): The operation timed out.

So does it look like it is AVAST although I turned it off and still couldnt log in.

Malwarebytes full scan is running now.

    I appreciate yor help.
    Thanks
    Karen

I have googled that I need to do this

you can change/release and renew your ip ?

I'd advise you to edit your post and take all of that out as it shows your IP address on Tiscali/TT.

OK. It depends on how AVAST hook the connections. It may just alter the settings on the browser proxy preference. I don't speak 'Chrome' but on Firefox you'd look under preference > advanced > network > and then look under 'Connection - configure how Firefox connects to the internet'. You may get lucky and just be able to select 'no proxy' if anything else is selected.

I suspect, however, it intercepts network traffic elsewhere. In any case I would personally want to look closer at the AV to see if its web proxy is to blame or not. It may be legitimately timing out because it has onward connection issues.

Is it just firstchoice, or won't it work with any website?

BTW, my Avast has the following in HTTP PORTS: 80,8080,8091,8081,8008,8888,3124,3127,3128

Hi, its only first choice everything else is fine, but I now get a new error.
My http ports on avast are 8091,8081,8008,8888,31 (I deleted 80 as suggested somewhere)

I appreciate your advice but tbh I dont really understand what you are suggesting I do, I tried this
    ipconfig/release ipconfig/renew
    but it didnt work

    Thanks again

OK. I've just attempted to open this on an XP machine with AVAST running. The link: http://www.firstchoice.co.uk/ works fine for me...

BUT if I try and use any secure links (https) like https://www.firstchoice.co.uk/ it bombs out with a certificate warning.

Both links work fine for me

Interestingly I'm only getting that on my Windows test machines, on my own personal laptop (which does not run Windows) I get no warning in any of my browsers.

I cannot say if that is even relevant to your issue - because if you disable Avast it should make no difference to what is going on. If I were you I'd open up Firefox, find the preferences/settings/options option from the drop down menus, navigate to ADVANCED, click the second tab mark 'NETWORK' and click the 'settings' button next to 'configure how Firefox connects to the internet'. Does 'no proxy' have a dot in the radio button next to it?

"no Proxy" does not have a dot in it
"use system proxy settings" has the dot in it

Malwarebytes has not found anything on a full scan.

Put the dot in 'no proxy' for a moment and see if that allows you to reach the page.

If that clears up the issue, it would be time to look at what is intercepting your calls to that page.

Also try https://www.firstchoice.co.uk and see if it suffers any problems on your computer.

    thanks,

on firefox after I changed it I got this -
The server at https://www.firstchoice.co.uk is taking too long to respond.:T
