Staying in a hotel - Family of 5 with young kids.

I accept it's not ness, but some places that don't sleep 5, do when the child is under 2.not necessarily.
I work in hotel management, have done for years. Some rooms do not have enough room for a cot, I was simply pointing out age is not the restriction for most hotels, it is down to space. They may also have a limited no of extra beds and cots for rooms as well. Not all hotels are like Premier Inn and purpose built.0 -
Many hotels can take three young children - some cannot due to shape/size restrictions
Don't whatever you do say there are only two children though, and sneak one in. Housecounts are very important to hotels for a very good reason..safety!
Totally agree - I'm amazed how many people are advising cheating the hotels and how little they understand of the implications0 -

What astounds me about people doing this is that if there was a fire and the family were unconcious, would one of the kids get left behind because the staff did not know they were there?? Would this not bother you or do you think 'it will not happen to me'? It sends shivers down my spine how little parents think of things like this when it comes to saving a few quid. If you got pregnant and only had a for seater car, would you shove the youngest in the middle, unbelted, or get a bigger car?
If you choose to have 5 kids, you choose to pay the extra costs associated with them, surely? Isn't this something you consider when having a family??
And as for not staying in adjoining room - do you never stay in lodges/apartments or caravans where the kids have their own rooms? It's a poor excuse, lock the hotel room door and prop the adjoining door open, if you are still worried, one parent stays in one room, one parent in another.0 -
sorry to hi-jack the postHi, we have a 6,5 and 1 year old. We've had no trouble at 7 Holiday Inns/Holiday Inn Expresses and Crowne Plazas we've stayed at over the past year, they give us a double and a sofa bed and make up a cot.
I've called each time to make sure its ok and they are very cool about it - with the big discounts on the HI chain from Obukit on this site, it makes it very worthwhile, mostly for less than £45 a night, max was £55 at Crowne Plaza Heathrow.
Went to Spain and had the same arrangement.
You should be fine if you're ok with your 2year old sleeping with you in the same bed.
but plz can u tell me how u got the crown plazas for £55 my sister stayed on monday n paid £100 but that was dbnb

Don't be so absurd. Are you thinking the fire brigade stop for a printed room list as they battle their way in, in breathing apparatus? They have a strict protocol for searching rooms and would not leave just because they have found 4 people in a room. They clear a room. If that were the case they would only look for 2 as most rooms are for 2 beds and a sofa bed. Travelodge rooms (and others) will easily accommodate a cot, the terms say so, what is the difference with the floor space a cot takes up as against a small blow up mattress. Let people do as they wish in something like this, its them that takes the consequence. I would be more worried the hotel would make me book another room.
Having said that....I have 3 smallish kids and we go for adjoining rooms. There are bargains to be had in most places...just off peak periods. Accor hotels just had a special offer on in all their hotels and we got 2 Mercure rooms for 50% off - about 60 per night both rooms. (And it was August school hols). So just go when the specials are on, dont decide a date and look for specials for that date.
And as mentioned above, caravan holidays are much better. May half term we went to France, 160 euro for a week for all of us.0 -

I think what Blue_monkey was trying to say is that if the staff told the fire brigade that there were only 4 people in that room (based on what the parents indicated) then surely the fire brigade won't expect 5 people in that room.
Though I got your point, I know the fire brigade won't stop searching for someone just because they we're told to look for a given number of people.Late in the room:beer:0
