Energyhelpline information INCORRECT!

I did my own calculations as well. EHL says my annual costs (G&E) are £897 per year (with the updated Scottish Power Online Energy Saver 13 tarriff).
My figures only show around £700 in total with the increase/updated tarriff.
Unless EHL are assuming from today until next year G&E prices will go up (not just August 2011)?0 -

You appear to have your calculations wrong too then
If you give the data I asked for in post#4, someone may take a look for you. Without the data, no one can help you sorry..."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Usage
Gas: 15000kwh / year
Elec: 2300kwh / year
Scottish Power Online Energy Saver 13 (below inc VAT) NSC
Region 14/Midlands. No E7
Current price:
Gas: 5.838 (first 670kwh/Q) then 2.762
Elec: 16.198 (first 225kwh/Q) then 10.209
August 2011 rise:
Gas: 7.219 (first 670kwh/Q) then 3.31
Elec: 20.638 (first 225kwh/Q) then 10.209
EHL bases the £849 on August 2011 prices.
I calculate my total annual consumption around £700 not £849 and that is based on the August 2011 prices, not my current.0 -

I calculate my total annual consumption around £700 not £849 and that is based on the August 2011 prices, not my current.
The figures EHL use are:
Electricity: 20.638 p for the first 225 kWh per quarter, and 10.209 p thereafter
Gas: 7.219 p for the first 670 kWh per quarter, and 3.310 p thereafter
Other discounts: Dual fuel discount of £16.80 per year. Online discount of £15.75 per year.
(These are all as per the SP website for August prices, and as you quote)
That gives a cost for your annual usage of:
£897.38
Have you included some other discounts?
Be sure to have consider a full year at tier 1 units (the figures given relate to per quarter), but then the cost would still be £748.41 with this error"Now to trolling as a concept. .... I'm with the OP. Energyhelpline is very misleading in my view. Unless you look carefully and click to see your real results anyone using it to switch will be fooled into thinking switching will be a saving on their current tariff which is unlikely to be the case. They may not realise the importance of using less energy to reduce their bills.0

I disagree, in fact it's the only site that tells you what your next 12 months costs are really likely to be (unless you do something)
It's nice that it also gives the advice other sites give to prove they know what they are doing
(i.e. what it would have cost for the previous 12 months at todays prices - not sure what the value of that is though)
No comparison site takes into consideration a possible reduction in consumption - it uses the consumption figures you give.
EHL tell you how much it will cost in the next 12 months based on that consumption (assuming no later price changes are announced)."Now to trolling as a concept. .... i eventually got to the figure of £897.38 on my spreadsheet matching energyhelpline, so i admit that my calculations were incorrect. EHL is not misleading at all!
i think that with fixed tariffs and in the long term, savings should also include inflation costs/value of money depreciation, as only then will you know the true savings made in the long term.0 -

I think the issue I have with energyhelpline is that they are the only comparison website that shows current expenditure in that manner.
Also they make the assumption you are going to be moved to the Standard tariff and you will remain on that tariff.
That said, I never bother with entering what company I am using. All I am interested in is the price 'pecking order' of the various tariffs.0
