Energyhelpline information INCORRECT!

MSE describes Energyhelpline as Top Comparison.

However, it is giving me misleading information.

It has not taken account of the various discounts my current provider applies after the main kWh usages.

It simply takes my current supplier main kWh rates and compares from there.

It suggested I could save £141 by switching.
I built up a spreadsheet. After comparing my current supplier rates and discounts and those of what Energyhelpline recommended, I calculated I would be £172 worse off!!

Perhaps MSE / Martin Lewis would care to investigate?

Perhaps you could give us the details so we can all see for ourselves?

There are numerous threads created suggesting the comparison sites are incorrect, but rarely if ever is there the actual data to substantiate such claims. Now's your opportunity to pioneer the way ... :)

I think I also have the same issue as winco.

    http://www.energyhelpline.com

With E.ON Price Protection April 2014 it shows me that EDF Fixed Price 2014 would save me £138 to switch to it.

    However

http://www.uswitch.com tells me that EDF Fixed Price 2014 would cost me £70 more to switch to from E.ON Price Protection April 2014

So i expect http://www.energyhelpline.com is wrong!

    Give us the data, please!

What is your current supplier & tariff?
    Where do you live/which region?
What is your annual usage of gas and/or electricity?
If E7, how much is day and how much is low rate?

Hello Premier and all, here goes:

    I live in Dorset.
    My annual usage is:
    Electricity 5650 kWh
    Gas 14786 kWh

    E.ON FixOnline 8
    Elec first 900kWh @ 22.37p, thereafter 9.53p
    Gas first 2680kWh @ 6.214p, thereafter 3.008p

    sub total £1184.69

    6% Direct Debit discount
    2% Dual fuel discount
    18.4% online discount
    Add VAT @5%
    Total £915.53

Go back to the £1184.69 sub total, and add 5% VAT to that, the result is £1243.92. Energyhelpline states my annual spend is £1229.00. OK, not quite the same, but close enough in the scheme of things. Energyhelpline does not take the discounts into consideration.

Energyhelpline recommended the Scottish Power Direct October 2012:

    Elec first 900kWh @ 21.139p, thereafter 8.908p
    Gas first 2680kWh @ 7.008p, thereafter 2.637p
Dual Fuel Discount of £16.80 per year
    Online discount £15.75 per year.
    Add VAT @5%.
    Total £1087.88

Compare my current £915.53, with this £1087.88 - more not less!

    ================
Now, writing this, I am not sure if Energyhelpline have calculated my annual spend for what I would be paying with E.ON after July, when my current fixed scheme finishes?

For any tariff that is ending in the next year, energyhelpline give you an annual figure on the assumption that you will remain on the new tariff that your company will place you.

e.g. If you are paying £1200 a year(£100 a month) on a tariff that has 1 month to run; and your new tariff(on which your company will place you) will be £1,500 a year(£125 a month) energyhelpline will show your spend as £1,475 (1 x £100 + 11 x £125)

I'm with Cardew on this Energyhelpline will use the default that you will be switched to by Eon for comparison.

For FOL8 it will be the basic Eon Dual Fuel Online so you will lose the 16.8% discount.

You can choose to view FOL8 as a comparison if you select it from the top left on the comparison summary page. As it is so historic their is little point IMO.

This may help go to end of thread.

The £1229 is the 'weighted price' from EHL - i.e. a price they believe you will pay if you do nothing taking into account your deal ends within 2 months (so higher prices will then apply)

The unweighted/standard figure (available via a couple of clicks) is £916. i.e. the price uSwitch also gives.

Perhaps you'd now care to correct your incorrect thread title? :)

This is what EHL also says when you look at the unweighted/standard output ;)
