Not losing weight

Hi all,
Just wondering if there is a thread on here or can anyone assist with my queries.
I've been told that I am morbidly obese by the doctors, I was first told last year at an asthma clinic, and from then I've been watching what i've been eating, I weighed myself several months later and was exactly the same weight. I stopped eating takeaways and stopped eating large bags of crisps, started eating more fruit and veg, having a cupasoup for lunch(with my fruit) instead of two sandwiches, also started walking about three times a week, although my job is quite physical, we take in alot of deliveries(several pallets of paper/booklets each week), my job also entails alot of standing and moving around all day, and I work on the 2nd floor of a building, and unless I am carrying heavy loads or using a trolley I walk up and down the stairs, wasn't before the 'news'.
I started to get tingling in my hands/arms when driving, using mouse on pc at work, the first doctor I seen who was a locum, prescribed me some anti-inflammatories but said that if they didn't make a difference to go back and they'd get a full blood work done to rule out other things. It didn't make a difference and went back and got the nasty doctor(I think every surgery has one!) he said it's my weight, and done some stretching tests with my neck, outstretched arms etc and said the tingling was coming from my neck and my weight was alot to do with it causing me to not keep a good posture. I tried to tell this doctor that what I was eating and that i'd been trying to lose weight but not shifting, it was like he didn't want to hear me. dismissed!
Anyone got any suggestions, although I am going to start a diary of the food I am eating and calories that i'm consuming to see if this adds up.
If this is not the right place, feel free to point me in the right direction or move my post to that section. Thanks for listening.

Forgot to mention had a blood test done to check my thyroid as my sis had a overactive one(had radioiodine) not back under again and on some medication. Bloods came back normal(allegedly) may have to read some more stuff and ask some more questions at doc's.

    Any further help greatly appreciated.

I agree with your idea of keeping a diary - but I'd suggest a week or two of being obsessive about recording exactly what you eat. By "obsessive" I mean that you don't say you ate a baked potato with cheese, you say you ate 300g (or whatever) of baked potato with 50g of cheese, 10g of butter, a grind of pepper and a pinch of salt.

I don't think that's a healthy habit to get into long term, but I found it very valuable when I first started to lose weight.

I think that the result will be one of three things:
    • You'll lose weight because you're now more aware of what you're eating; or
    • You won't lose weight but you'll see that you're eating too much; or
    • You won't lose weight, but you'll see that you're not eating too much - so you can take that evidence to your doctor and they'll hopefully listen to you. It's easy to say "oh, smitchy73 just doesn't realise that her portion sizes are enormous so she's really eating loads" - but harder to say that with evidence of portion size in front of you.
Hopefully the first will happen (it did for me), but even if it's one of the others you might be further forward that you are now.

Thanks Annisele much appreciated. I may have to look out the scales to weigh things, but to be brutally honest the only things I eat in a normal day, breakfast consists of a coffee drank on the way to work at 6am, have an apple mid morning(9ish) then for lunch have a cupasoup(95cals) plus another apple(sometimes two) and a banana or two, this is washed down with about a litre of water over and hour or two. No snacks in the afternoon, and then I'll have a normal dinner, but this could be pasta, or pork steaks potatoes and veg, maybe once a fortnight have fish and chips(oven) and I load the plate with vegetables too(also have cut down from having two bits of fish to just one.
I've totally cut out fizzy drinks to maybe once a week.
The worst bit of the diary will be the dinner I tried it tonight and it worked out at about 850 calories which was chicken pieces, chow mein sauce(from a jar) along with an express rice and a handful of oven chips, add this to two apples, two bananas, a litre of water at lunch three cups of coffee all day, doesn't add up to a lot. But we'll see how it goes over a week or two.
Thanks to all the competition posters.

You could try using myfitnesspal to log your food for a couple of weeks. If you input your current height/weight and normal daily activity level it will recommend a number of calories to eat each day to attain your goals. It may be that you're not eating enough calories, or it maybe that you're eating more than you realise. I have found that if I eat less than 1200 calories a day I lose nothing whereas around 1400 or so (depending on the level of activity I've done that day) will see me lose weight eg - one day last week I walked about 12 miles, this gave me a calories allowance of around 2200 calories which I ate, most day my allowance was around 1600-1900 because of my activity levels and I had lost 2lbs when I weighed myself at the end of the week. This week, however, exercise has been on a back burner due to a really crappy time going on in my personal ife, so my calories have been around 1300-1400 most of the time - I weigh in tomorrow so I don't know if I've lost yet or not, but I expect to!

If I sound a bit evangelical about it, it's because it's really working for me (and it's free ;) )

ETA _ I eat plenty of bread, but no potatoes and I lose weight. A low carb diet wouldn't be something I would ever consider, but I know they work for some people and there is a facility in MFP to adjust the recommended amount of protein/carbs to allow for a low carb plan, if that is what you choose.

Smitchy, I normally just read the MSE forums and never contribute, but your post made me register so I could respond.

In January I weighed 18.5 stone, and had struggled with my weight for years. I now weigh 13.8 stone, feel great and look a lot better too. I did this without spending hard earned cash in slimming world and the like, which I have done in the past.

So many friends and family asked me how I did it that I decided to share it all in a blog I have just started writing. My experience may help you and best of all won't cost anything.

Blog is here: notanotherdiet.co.uk - I am new so not allowed to post a real link, so add the bit at the beginning to make it a proper link.

Have a read, bearing in mind it's a work in progress blog and not finished yet and drop me a line if you need further advice.
