Thinking of buying a pallet from wholesaler website. Should I?

I study BTEC Business and just wanted to buy a pallet or something in bulk and sell it. Just get a feel in this area as it has always interested me, I dont want to start looking at niche markets and all that, havnt got the time really with all this studying!

I found a website ticmobiles.com, I think thats what their website is, anyways, I saw a few pallers for under £200 and me and my friend was thinking of buying one, making £100 investment, not a major loss. The pallet is worth over £1,000 but I think we will defiently get our money back.

Just wanted to test, not about how much money I make, will end up keeping half the stuff outselves:D .

Anyone else know of any good wholesaler who will sell to students? Can get a letter from college if needed? Good and bad points?

Any advice is good advice! Looking forward to your responses.

Regards,

    Hiya, :)

I know that you're asking as a student, but I think your query might best be answered on the small business forum so I'll move your post across.

    Good luck :)

I used to buy a lot of the graded pallets (cheap ones) from gemdiscounts a few years back and usually did well on ebay. They sell mainly designer clothes and graded electric goods.

I think you need to be sure that you can spare the money. It may take a while to sell so the money would be tied up or it might not work out as well as you hope. I think testing the market like this should be approached cautiously; great if it works out and not a total financial disaster if it doesn't. If you can spare the cash go for it. You'll never know if it is going to work unless you try it. Good luck!

also take into account the £45 delivery cost from that site. oh and add VAT to the list price and the delivery.

Ok thanks for the advise, it really helps!

Im not looking to buy loads and sell them, just want to half with my mate and sell the one pallet, its more of an experience trip then to make money. Money isnt a problem YET! Got EMA backpayments, what better way than to spend it on something related to my course, better than buying clothes and gadgets like some of my other mates.

I dont know much about these companies, any reviews? Anyone else bought any pallets? I know a few products would be damaged but roughly what percentage of it is damaged?

    Thanks!!!!!

Might just order one from gemdiscounts. Will get one that totals no more than £200 inc delivery and tax. Just a try out!

Where are you planning on selling these items?

I am interested in perhaps investing in a pallet and selling items on also.

I am not a fan of eBay, mainly because I dont have much success with it, especially with me being unable to use PayPal.

I attempted to start my own mobile accessories sales ,both on my own website and on ebay. I started with buying a pallet of accessories from a wholesaler who was based in blackpool,he advertised it being for new and older model mobiles.Like an idiot I didn`t print out the screen.....what arrived were thousands of cases and chargers for nothing but obsolete phones, I paid with Barclaycard but they didnt want to know when I complained of a rip off...I didnt have proof of the advert. Then there was the problem of storing it - a pallet of goods take up alot of room!-. I offered the lot to Oxfam but even they refused it! I ended up taking it all down to the dump, kissing goodbye to my money and any hopes of making some money alongside the `day job`.I paid £200 for that pallet so please, before parting with cash ,go and have a look at the goods you will be buying,I wish I had!....Good luck

    I have P`med you!
I would love some decent telly on a Saturday night

Thanks for the info. Well, you see.....I MIGHT keep a few bits and bobs:D :D. Others, I would first try and sell to friends and family along with busines lecturers who said they would buy if they liked something. After all that I will put the rest on eBay (if any of it is still left that is!).

Most of these wholesalers look like middle men to me, also they are all out of London, so, I cant go out and view the goods before I buy. My mate just passed his driving lesson so might take his car and see the pallets I may buy, but I cnanot go any further than London.

Are there any wholesalers in London? It's quite hard finding wholesalers, let alone good ones.

Btw Gem Discounts emailed me saying they cannot sell me a pallet even though I explained it was for educational purposes, they only sell b2b, so, that company cannot be considered now:o .

    Thanks,
