AOL Service

Options
AOL Customer service is blackspot on the brand AOL.I migrated to AOL from plus.net and suddenly plus.net went off and plus.net confirmed that service is taken over by the AOL so they are no longer my providers. Then i changed the router settings & connected without any trouble to AOL.But i signed for a contract and was expecting free router so called AOL.

After 17 minutes wait on 0870 technical support finally connected to cs and intitally it seems that they have no idea about my bb activation and then they said yes you are connected by aol but they have no idea about router .So they passed me further to the Customer services after a further wait for 5 minutes.
Reply i got from AOL CS: it take 10-15 days to migrate to AOL & get the router.

Then i said it is already working on my old router and you didn't even sent the single plain letter about expected change of date.No apologies by AOL and he said router is in the post for you & will be with you shortly. Now it is 14th december (aol started on 12-12-06) and no signs of new router as well as letter.

Only one thing it is faster than Plus.net on basic package but customer/technical service is really dreadful.

You obviously have not read the AOL thread on this board. There is no need to ring 0870 numbers when you can use 0800 freephone numbers!

    Not very eagle-eyed!

I live as a tenant and not allowed to use the land phone for personal calls.I have o2 offpeak contract in which 0870 comes from bundle minutes.Anyway we 4 people are sharing this connection.AOL is the only provider which don't charge if one moves the home (plus.net charges £5.00)and good for students like me.:D
  • They dont call it AOHell for nothing :p
  • AOHEll still no router here (17-12-06) and no reply from these guys yet.I will ring the cancellation tomrw. and lets see what explanation they give.A third class customer service by this pooh brand.
  • eagle eye, i had close to same problem,, ring tech guys,, as soon as you talk to them they will probably be indian ask to be put through to a uk centre there is a ireland one,, dont take no for a answer just say you want to talk to a uk person or ask to speak to a supervisor, if the irish dont solve it speak to his super visor dont put down the phone till you have sorted it, i got 1 month free 12.99 a month and a free router,, ( they already sent me one but they cancelled the order and put another one through instead)
  • I did spoke to Uk customer /Irish person today and they promised that another router is in post.Let's whether it arrives with in 2 days as they claimed it.I will wait for another 2 days and then may write a postal letter to them .What else i can do as these guys are taking me on a ride.Transferring from one department to another then saying go online type live help but live help only works on aol software which they didn't sent me.Stay Away from AOL !

I had the same problem, but the answer i got was that the people that send out the routers are 1 department and the people that sort the the migrating are another department, this i can understand.

however you say you are connected to AOL so REALLY theres not a problem, your issue is with the free router, put for the free month which I also go and be patient, this time of year the postal service is SOOO busy, your router will arrive,

and to quote SillySteph "They dont call it AOHell for nothing"
they are no differnt fromand other CS in the UK either

AOL router is finally here and indeed AOL CS initially lied that router is on the way on 08/12//06, in fact it was sent in post on 19/12/06 via royal mail first class as visible from the post mark and it has reached here on 21st of December. The download speed is much better than plus.net but the customer service is non-existing except the cancellation department.

Beware of AOL contract rip off:

To make you sign off the contract AOL claims that Broadband service only works with some selected routers which is incorrect. AOL works perfectly on D-link D-GSL-604T wireless router .Albeit AOL browser and live help may not work with this router but I hate AOL browser as it slows down my computer.
    Choose D-link GSL-604 settings as
    VPI-0
    VCI-38
    Encapsulation: vc
    Type :PPPoA
