I like Grand Designs as well - it's the only thing I've got on 'keep' on my Sky planner.

You sound like a nicer person than me though. I saw the episodes you refer to and I did wish the worst for them (well not death - just homelessness or a debtors prison). I'll never understand how the banks lent some of these people money; especially on the over-runs. It did appear that they were incapable of budgeting for a weeks shop let alone a building project.

One of the ones that really had me annoyed was the lady who converted the french farmhouse to a ski lodge and kept blaming poor old Mr B'stard the builder for mistakes that were made because she was too wooly in her design to have an architect and too cheap to either have a full-time project manager or to stay over there and project manage it himself.

She ordered this massively expensive kitchen that had also been installed at the Savvoy (it was a huge thing for doing mass catering on) and even though she could see that the works were behind, she refused to postpone the delivery and installation of the kitchen. Mr B'Stard copped for that too.

Actually there are a number of people on GD that 'get my goat', perhaps part of the reason I watch it is just to be able to vent at the telly. Maybe I'm not so nice after all! :o

I do empathise with some of the people on GD though as well, our renovations have gone badly in places and it's amazing the high amount of stress you can feel about the (miss)placement of a light switch, etc.

Now talking about getting my goat ;) have you seen the programme Young, rich and househunting?

The good old bank of mum and dad. Doesn't teach them much in the way of life lessons though does it. Some of the people on it are just horrible.

    The big, bad wolf.
