Plusnet - are they for real?

  • You'd have thought Plusnet would target that advertising and only send the mailshot to people who can get it. There's no point mailshotting all their customers when given the rollout stage only a tiny fraction of the country can have it.

If you PM me your postcode I'll have a look and see if your cabinet is planned to be done and what phase it's in. If it isn't planned at all then the point of the letter remains a mystery.

No, it isn't possible for Plusnet to be ahead of BT with the rollout; there are only two main infrastrusture companies - Virgin Media and BT. The first has always been FTTC. If you can't have that then every other ISP has to wait for BT to run the fibre. Aside from smaller regional operators, which Plusnet wouldn't use anyway.

    I've found Plusnet OK.
I get around 2mbps on an up to 8mbps service. Not great but does what I want.
BTW I get 0.92mbps on a free 1mbps service in Singapore and download times appear to me to be no different to that which I get from Plusnet.
As I'm overseas for big chunks of the year Plus net have been good at suspending my payments while away with no start up charge.
But now they say they won't do a free suspension in future.

Any other ISPs that will do a free suspension????

Are you on a contract with PlusNet and is that the reason they won't do a free suspension? just that i was thinking of signing up with PlusNet and as I thought it was month to month if I also work flexibly it would help not to be paying when i'm not around.

Far as I know I'm not on a contract with Plusnet any more.

There is some confusion at the moment with their use in emails to me of 'cease service' rather than 'put the service on hold'.

But it appears they have agreed to put my service on hold for 3 months now with no monthly cost during that period and no reinstatement charge but I'm a bit dubious about that now.

When I'm next in UK I'll see how things work out because they've said this is the last time they'll put me on hold with no reinstatement charge.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.
