Visa versus cash ...

We're flying into Oslo in a couple of weeks. We have to buy bus and train tickets for onward travel to Sweden. Would it be cheaper to just purchase the tickets with a credit/debit card or is it worth getting the local currency beforehand and do it that way?

Cheers

Unfortunately there is no easy answer to that question. In general, the card is likely to be cheaper. However, some cards charge more than others.

Alternatively, get a TravelEx Cash Passport Globe prepaid card. It's being recommended a lot in the forums (although it's not mentioned in the guide above). It charges a flat fee of 1.49% for all transactions, which beats exchanging cash and the majority of debit/credit cards. It's probably the best balance of low fees and low hassle factor.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

Thanks benjus. As soon as I posted I had a feeling there wouldn't be a straightforward answer. I'll check out that TravelEx card you mentioned.
