Scottish Power AVERAGE Price Rise!!
The announced Scottish Power price rise (19% Gas and 10% Electric) is an average. I am on Online Energy Saver 10 and after a 40 minute phone call I managed to drag the new prices out of Scottish Power:
Gas (First 2680KWh 7.541p, Rest 3.457p) = 34%-48% Increase
Electric (First 900KWh 21.558p, Rest 10.664p) = 23%-41% Increase
Based on my annual usage, this results in a 38% increase to my annual bill - So much for 10% & 19%

If my last bill was charged at August 2011 prices, the increase is actually 31% for Electric and 42% for Gas.
I honestly think Scottish Power have got something wrong in the figures they are quoting to the press and it needs looking at IMO. However, I will be rejecting this price increase and switching as soon as they inform me - so their loss!0 -
Thanks for the link, but I think it only covers their standard tariffs. There is no mention of the multitude of "Online" deals and the prices I was given by customer service are not the same as any in the guide.
Cheers0 -

You got off lightly - I'm on OES12 and based on my annual usage, my annual cost will increase by over 42% ... looks like a switch is on the cards, but I need to wait for the other suppliers to show their hands first. (The fixed/capped deals are too expensive for me)
Oddly a different SP variable tariff is currently the best price, even before the others put their prices up ... but how long before SP change that one too?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... They are not mistakes. This is the most important and fundamental unfairness that is rampant in the industry (the fact that businesses are businesses and are making profits and increasing prices is not the main problem). The unfairness is that there is no competition amongst suppliers - there is only competition and bartering between the customers of the same supplier who are being charged different prices for the exact same product.
If you are facing 40% or 50% bumps in prices then you should celebrate - you have been receiving subsidised energy for a time and vulnerable customers on standard tariffs have been mugged and have been throwing money your way. (No, I am not condemning individuals for taking advantage of the deals.)
On the front page of their price increase announcement in footnote 8 they are saying you can still save £459 by choosing a different tariff - so they are doing nothing to rectify this obscene set up.
(And, btw, customers who pay quarterly on time do not cost a penny more nor do they on average provide a pound less in advance cashflow than those who pay by Direct Debit.)0 -

This is true. I moved to OES12 because it was significantly lower for me than all the rest, not just the standard tariff deals. It looks like SP have spotted this and took the opportunity to revise the tariff accordingly (but still keeping to their promise of being 2% under their standard monthly DD prices).
It's that mid term adjustment that warns me of tying myself up for longer by taking OES14, afraid that it too may be 'adjusted' perhaps in September - December.
Still, it was good while it lasted ...

exactly what I predicted/pointed out in another thread. I'm waiting to see what other suppliers do.0 -
What's needed is a mass exodus of customers from Scottish Power. If we co-ordinated an enmass switch request by thousands of their customers it would send a strong message to SP and all the other utilities.0

pity Watchdog not on at the moment, we could have had Anne Robinson grilling them re how misleading the average price figures are, although I'm sure the other suppliers will follow soon0

There was a mass exodus to them not long ago when cashback sites were offering £100+ to switch to them.
Similarly to EDF when they offered £100 (plus a typical cashback site bonus)
I'm sure the same will happen again if a supplier wants some more customers. Maybe SP has got too many at present to handle?"Now to trolling as a concept. ....
