Peugeot 206 1.1 LX Intermittent fault

Hi everyone...:)

I bought my 206 Y reg about 6 months ago...had full service, brand new MOT and it was fine until it started having this problem...but it seems to be temperamental...some days its fine some not.

These are the symptoms:

> I will be driving along fine and suddenly the accelarator just loses power, the revs go down to zero and then engine cuts out. I turn the key and the engine starts up and the accelarator is back to normal as if nothing as happened.

> Some times randomly the car wont start...it takes about 6 attempts but then it starts and off i go absolutely fine.

> Some times again randomly im driving along and the engine just cuts out and the power steering goes...

> there are no lights coming on on the dash apart from when the engine cuts out and they all lit up

I took the car to the garage and had the fuel pump replaced, the coil changed but 3 days later we are back to the same problem. The mechanic seems to not get to the root of the problem and i just seem to be spending money replacing parts but the problem stays.

Please can anyone advise, as im getting scared of driving the dam thing as its not safe specially when it decides to cut out in the middle of a roundabout. Please feel free to share any ideas:question::question::question::question:...thank you :(

i thought i answered this the other night but no worries
its usually a crank sensor fault on the top of your gearbox
they can be bought for under £20 from a motor factor and can be fitted at home
a basic code reader would not show this fault and unfortunately most mechanics wont invest in one anyway even though they are now for pennies
  • SB is right change this first, its the cheapest option, from here on in, then if that fails get a propper fault code read done mobile tuners charge decent enough and have all the kit a dealer could have, and he doesnt mind you having a chat and a cuppa with him while he's doing it and he will be able to explain as he goes along. crank and cams sensors can cause pugs to go have a hissy fit one min and be ok the next.

i have come accross the fly by wire accellerator sensors failing intermitantly if this is fitted. but do as above first.

  • CAN YOU HELP PLEASE.
My peugeot 206 04 when running seams to miss then the engine light comes on!! about a month ago the engine light started flashing the car lost power had to drive in second till I could pull over. The guy at the garage said it was the petrol relay switch he said he had checked all the wires so he replaced this (NOT CHEAP)
I picked the car up but next day again a slight miss in the engine and the light came back on but keeps going off and on!!
This week the same happened the car lost power and engine light flashing. I call a friend who has a garage and took the car in the next day, the car started fine drove to the garage about 2 miles the engine light went off and was running fine!
They put the car on a fault inder and he said may be the wirering as it was showing to many faults they checked the wiring and all seamed ok so they put in an ecu unit (on loan) picked the car up yesterday all ok this morning the engine light came on and has stayed on!!!!
    HELP.

Peugeot/Citroen/Talbot, they stopped making their best cars in 2001 (106GTI and 306 GTI/RALYE).... Those cars were just about good enough, to excuse the legendary electrical problems that have plagued their cars since day 1.

When my 306 started playing up (similar fault), I went all over the place trying to get it fixed, in desperation I spent hundreds of £'s on stuff it didn't need because one guy told me my exhaust was blocked, the exhuast place tried to pull a fast one, trying to sell me new tyre's, brakes and a new CAT (which they damaged, but later denied)...

Eventually went to Peugeot dealer, got it checked (£45) and they fitted a new lambda sensor (£200). So i'd spend some £600, plus I now needed a new CAT (£250), for a fault that should have cost £245.

My advice? Get the fault codes read and decide where to go from there. Plugging in a laptop and reading fault codes is what dealerships do best.

  • Sometimes my Pug 206 1.4 will just cut out and be difficult to steer when I'm slowing down for a roundabout or junction. It will start straight away even when the car is still moving. Hasn't happened for a while now. Maybe once a month it will randomly happen.

Mine used to do this - probably once every six months or so. But for the last couple of years it hasn't. The only difference is that I have changed where I get it serviced - I now use an independent, rather than a main dealer. Not sure whether they've sorted it (if they have I wasn't charged!), or whether it just sorted itself, but it always seemed to happen when I was turning a corner.

I still have a problem with the automatic choke on very cold mornings - it's been like it since I bought it and no-one has been able to solve it. No real problem, but the engine cuts out when I start moving...makes it look like it's my fault!. Starts fine second time...I think it just doesn't get the mix right first time.
  • My old Mondeo used to do what your Peugeot is doing. A change of fuel filter cured the problem.

Mine does this too unless I give it some revs. Only happens in winter of course.

Yep, only in the winter - it's done it from new.
