The simple answer is DON'T CARRY A HANDBAG.......when I am shopping I have my purse in my pocket zipped up............ and what else do you need to go shopping.. my keys and phone go in the other zipped pocket.. or in an inside pocket.....
If you absolutely can't manage without a handbag common sense says get a shoulder bag and wear it over your head and one shoulder and keep it at the front of your body...... it might look naff but who cares if it stops you from losing it......

  • I always by bags that will go over my shoulder but unfortunately these days the fashion is to have a little one under your armpit, which is neither use nor ornament, i don't like them anyway. It never ceases to amaze me at how many women do this it is just totally stupid as is putting the purse in your pocket. Years ago there used to be adverts on the televising saying don't put your bag on the trolley and don't put your purse in your pocket. They showed a purse being taken whilst the woman was bending down to pick an item up off a lower shelf preoccupied and bag was taken whilst she had her back turned to it deciding on what item to take off the shelf. Both done in less than 10 seconds.

Having been amazed at how a spate of purse thefts were carried out (not a quick snatch but with infinite patience) i now pin my purse to the inside of my handbag via a ribbon and 2 large safety pins (like kilt pins).

when i worked in sainsburys there were tannoys saying about bag snatchers in the area and to make sure customers keep an eye on their handbags, i think it was to keep the customers on their toes tbh

just dont take a handbag with you,

  • I am paranoid when out shopping. I bought a kipling bag of ebay it has a really long strap to wear across the body and also a strap inside with a fastening which i attach to my puse zip. It is really worth it especially if like me yu shop with kids as you need both hands free to keep hold of them;)

Reminds me of a story (could be urban legend) I heard about an English girl working as an au pair in New York. Her employers had gone away for a few days holiday leaving her in charge of their dog. Girl found the dog dead on the kitchen floor and wasn't sure what to do as she didn't want to spoil their holiday. She decided to ring and ask the vets for advice as to what she should do with the body of the dog. Vets said if you bring the dead dog to us we will store it in our freezer until the owners return and then they can decide if they want us to have it cremated or bury it themselves etc. Girl had to travel across NY on the subway so decided to put the dead dog in a wheeled suitcase.... You've probably guessed by now.... some **** chancer snatched her case as she got off the train, pushing her to the ground and legging it with her case full of dead dog!!!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Wish I could have seen his face when he opened the case!

A similar one is when you are packing your shopping (especially if theres a lot) you sometimes put stuff on the floor rather than in the trolley, chancer comes up and walks off with your bags of shopping. They'll also take them from your trolley when you've packed them.

I use a 'dog lead clip' on my key ring to secure my handbag to the trolley - makes the quick snatch impossible.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

Put the child seat belt through your handbag strap. Makes it hard to snatch the whole bag, but won't protect your purse if it's floating around on top. I have on different occasions poited out to various people that they may wish to move their purse somewhere a bit safer than half hanging out of the top of their handbag.
